Long story short, I tried to take the muzzle brakes off of one of my AR's and a 338 lapua, in the field, with a wrench and a lot of torque and they both immediately lost their zeros. The AR was about 4-5 moa low and left, and the 338 was about 1 1/2 moa low. Prior to this, they were both shooting perfect POA to POI.

Did I bend the barrels or upper receiver or action?

I realize I should have used a barrel vice at the muzzle, but figured I could macgyver it with no problems. Did I just really screw this up?

Installing a muzzle brake can shift your POI, particularly if torqued too tight. Removing it will should it to the original zero, that probably what you're seeing.

How many times did you twist the barrel around? Check the twist in your barrel to see if it WAS 1 in 7" and now it is 1 in 9" you REALLY twisted the barrel a lot. Just kidding I doubt you did any permanent damage. Like SWThomas said re-zero them.

    Lol @ TP.

I took out the 338 lm tonight with 7 rounds since thats all I had left. I put 4 in a 1/2 moa group at 100, went to 300 and put the last three in a .3x moa group. Yea, it still shoots. Im guessing my ar will do thr same thing. I still would love to know what exactly I "bent".
