Well I meet up with a buddy today that had Rem. 5r in 223 and made a trade.I traded my TC Encore 300 Win Mag. Pro Hunter and $260 dollars.The 5r has 20 inch barrel and is freaking awesome. It has a cheap Tasco 6-16x50 scope but some of the groups are crazy that it is shooting.I feel like I made a good trade but wanted to check with you guys....Thanks Andy

I have only owned. 270 and. 300 win mag so any ideas on good factory loads for this 223.

Is it barreled for .223, 5.56 or .223 Wylde? Reason why I ask is you can shoot .223 out of a 5.56 chambered barrel but not 5.56 out of .223. You can though shoot 5.56 out of .223 Wylde. The 5.56 case is thicker than the .223.

Should do good with anything in the 60/69gr range. (Guessing that its a 1/9 twist since i forget what the factory twist is on that one)

I was really looking for cash but my girlfriend said she wanted to try shooting with me so I couldn't pass it up knowing there is alot of good things said about the 5R. I am waiting on my seekins bdm so until I can finsh my custom 300 win mag I figured this will be a fun toy to play around with for a while.I dont really plan on loading for this gun so ill be running some different factory ammo to see what it likes.

I just measured the barrel and got 19 inches.So im guessing maybe the original owner cut the threaded part off and re-crowned it but not sure.Either way this thing looks sweet.

Did you measure from the recoil lug forward or from the bolt face forward? I'm guessing this is a factory correct 20" model. I don't think these came threaded.

I measured from the front of the recoil lug.....good catch.I kept reading about 20 inch threaded barrel so thats what made put tape on it.

This may be a stupid question but why are the rem. 700SS 5R not shown on the remington website? Might be over looking it but as of right now I don't see it on there site.

To get the correct measurement, with the bolt in the forward position, put a cleaning rod down the muzzle till it contacts the bolt face, mark it and measure.

If she can make a couple sandwiches and throw a couple sodas in the cooler you may have a keeper there. If not can her sister cook?
Back on topic there is nothing wrong with the 223 but if your lady isn't an experienced shooter might I suggest starting her on a 22 rimfire.
