Difference in Savage 10FCP McMill & 10FCP HSPrecis

Re: Difference in Savage 10FCP McMill & 10FCP HSPrecis

The only difference is the stock.

The Mcmillan stock is not bedded, and I believe that it only has one pillar, though I'm not positive.
For best results, it should be bedded.

The HS stock has an aluminum bedding block and does not require bedding, though it would probably benefit from a skim bed.

I've said it 100 times and I'll say it again. Aluminum chassis's in stocks have nothing to do with bedding. They are made to the same set of factory inletting spec's as plastic stocks, fiberglass stocks and wood stocks, and do nothing to compensate for the individual set of tolerances in each stock and each action. Only an epoxy based bedding job will reduce all the normal factory tolerances, even those on the actions themselves to esentially "zero" between an individual stock and the mating individual action, for max accuracy potential. Bedding is not "necessary" on any of them, but may or may not increase the accuracy potential.
Besides, we need something for everybody to fuss about now that the SHOT SHOW is over.

Hey, Thanks for the reply's
They sure look the same in the 2012 catalog but the HS version is kitted with optics and a bi-pod... strange though... the HS, kitted up, weigh's less than the basic McMillan?? thoughts?

I had both and sold the McMillan, even after bedding it. I just couldn't get comfortable on it. With a 20 moa rail on it it was not good for the cheek weld. If it would've had an adjustable cheek piece it might've been better, but I like the H-S better.

As I said in my post, a skim bed would most likely help.
However, a fibeglass stock will compress under torque more than aluminum. Aluminum will wear.
A McMillan is a very fine stock, but should have two pillars and a bed job.
My 5R, in an HS stock, without skim bedding was a solid .5 moa gun.

Cabelas also has an exclusive 10FCP that comes with a Choate Tactical stock. They go for $699,and have been on sale at times for $649.I traded for one a couple years ago,and have been very happy with it.I also had Fred Choate build me the same stock in a LH LA for my heavy barreled 110 25/06,and couldn't be happier with the stock.

The one in Ft.Worth usually has one on the rack.
