Ordered last week and received today a kit including pillars from Mcmillan to bed a rifle. I usually send them off, but decided I want to try it myself. Which brings me to my two questions.1. Am I an idiot to try? 2. is there a good web site to walk me through it? Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: DIY bedding

Do you think it would be worth trying to bed one of Remingtons synthetic ADL stocks? I've got a friend that says his 7 mag ADL shoots like shit, but doesn't know if it is him or the rifle. He wants me to shoot it and see how it does with someone else shooting it. Just wondered if it would be worth trying to bed the stock or if it would be a waist of time.

Re: DIY bedding

cant say firsthand. but there are guys that clear the channel and add some angle iron (aluminum) in a deeper groove that will stiffen the stock and allow you to float the barrel and then maybe try to bed it after that. guys reported better performance after doing this, but everybody eventually upgraded to another stock. keep an eye out in the used stuff section for a better stock.

Re: DIY bedding

i would get him to buy a Boyds stock and drop it into it and bed that as it is a better stock if he is on a limited amount of money and they shoot all right without bedding but if he has the coin it realy is worth investing in a better stock and bedding the rifle. the plastic that Rem uses is not the greatest but you can bed the stocks and gan a lot in the accuracy department.

Re: DIY bedding

I'll suggest a stock swap but he's not the type to spend much on changing things. He doesn't care much for the recoil and mentioned just selling it, maybe I can pick it up cheap and do something with it myself.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack, just had a somewhat similar question. </div></div>

No hijack at all. I am learning more.
