I bought what looked to be, and was described to be, a newly built AR-15 match rifle built by one of the top AR builders on gunbroker.

I got it in, and the 2nd stage of the trigger was FILED OFF, so it was actually a long single stage. I replaced the trigger with another Geissele and it works great now. Then I found that the bolt catch was FILED DOWN 1/8" because the button didn't properly fit in the upper (the button was oversized and it didn't fit in the slot on the upper, which caused the bolt catch to kick up and bind with the bcg). I replaced it with a normal bolt catch and it works perfectly now. The barrel was actually the brand he said it was, but it was not the same twist he listed it as, and fired more than a few times. When I questioned him about it he said "well I didn't remember exactly what twist it was". what???

Well I shot it with some of my hand loads that I shoot in the high power matches, and the best I could muster, with a scope, on a lead sled, was 2 moa. I figured something was wrong, so I took it home looked it all over, cleaned it up and went back out again.

PRVI 75gr match shot 5 moa, yes, 5+ inches at 100. PMC bronze shot about the same. Black Hills wouldn't group better than 2 to 2 1/2 moa. My hand loads did the best, and once got a 1.5" 3 shot group, but couldn't put 5 together better than 2 moa.

Do you guys think I have the right to get my money back at this point? The trigger was bad, the bolt catch was bad, the barrel doesn't have the twist I was told it had, and it shoots worse than any POS dpms chrome lined carbine I've ever seen. What can I do?

Who is one of the top AR builders on Gun Broker?

Umm... thats worded wrong. I bought a gun on gunbroker that was built by a top AR builder, supposedly anyway. He is pretty famous so Ill leave his name out of it. I doubt he built it after seeing the work that was done to it.

You never should have fixed anything and sent it back right after you saw the first problem. They can now question if it actually arrived to you like that or of you messed it up yourself.

    I would post the name.

He actually admitted after I got the rifle that he had someone else had grind on the bolt catch because it wasn't fitting right, when that wasn't the problem at all. If he had stopped for 2 seconds to look at it, it would've been obvious what the real problem was.

I'll post names if I don't get my money back.

Haven't you heard of me? I am one of the top builders. Though I have never built one for anyone except myself, every one I have built has been a hammer. Almost anyone with some modicum of mechanical skill and sense of value can build a decent AR. Obviously you are dealing with a complete moron. It may shoot fine if you use some light bullets in the thing, but then that isn't what you were promised. Ultimately if he truly misrepresented the rifle you should gewt your money back....unless it was sold AS-IS and no refund. You have access to gunbroker....why the hell didn't you build your own, it isn't rocket science.

"When ever I see a rifle for sale that states something along the lines of, "Built by the greatest AR smith in the USA, 1/4MOA or less every round, every day, or 1/4MOA bolt gun, selling to fund a new build, or mama needs a boob job.... ", etc., I become apprehensive. One of my favorites is, "Only has 40 rounds down the tube-1/4MOA gun, will sell with 200 pieces of once fired brass". These guys usually are selling for MORE than new from Bud's Gun shop! I guess the value has increased due to the fact this idiot owned it! You were cheated, clear and simple, get the full refund, return with original parts, buy a replacement rifle either NIB, or from a reputable source. I hope you are able to get the refund without any further trouble, good luck!

I recently had a similar transaction on gunbroker. Hit the buy it now on a new rem 700 sps tactical 20" with factory aac 51t, nightforce base/rings/ leupold mark4lrt 3.5x10x40 m3, harris swivel bipod, hs ltr takeoff duracoated tan, and a badger ord bolt knob. Pics looked good.

ended up getting .. used rem 700 sps tactical aac 51t, scope is ollder vari x 3 lrt not anewer mk4lrt, knock off bipod, messed up x mark pro trigger, damaged HS stock( no worries as HS is fixing it now), a bolt knob that looks done by bubba the dremelsmith.. enough build up on the aac51t to account for atleast 200rds.. Emailed and called seller.. said oh that was a rifle owned by a former employee, we took his word on it... um if you pay shipping you can send it back to us minus a restocking fee and gunbroker fee...( fineprint in auction) I asked for a partial refund or atleast the real products advertised.. to make up the diffference in scopes/ bipods.... was already in it for 1650, plus 40 ffl... would have ended up sending rifle back, loosing 40 x 2 for ffl, shipping through fed ex or ups at 25 lbs, 100 for gun broker, and 165 for restocking fee...

long run, I will fix what I must, learned a big lesson in reading the fine print, and although upset not very mad that I ended up keeping it. It will makea great beater/ jeep rifle and after some TLC will be great for the money spent.
