Do I need to Skim Bed My AICS 1.5?

Re: Do I need to Skim Bed My AICS 1.5?

You will never know unless you do it, and after you have done it you’re done.

That being said I have done before and after and have never seen a difference.

My advice is shoot it if you’re happy with it don't bother. If not it won't hurt to try.

I can't see why you would want to. After dropping my rifle in an AICS I am not going to bed. But if you think you need to like Randy said there is only one way to know.

I think it is better to bed it. I put a tac 30 in one for a customer and you could see daylight behind part of the lug. That can't be good. I just think it's better to bed it. He said it shot better after the bedding. It may work fine for some and not for others.

all the gunsmiths i have been talking to about doing my project have told me you do not need to do any bedding on the aics. apparently it has a self centering v shape reciever bed.

Stress is stress. If your action is shaped like a banana and you strap it down and stress it then it won't shoot optimally. That being said most barrel jobs we put into one still achieve .5 moa with relative ease. I say follow Randy's advice. If you are happy with it then leave it. If not give it a whirl. It's not fun to get out so there is no going back once you cross the line.

We have truly only had to bed less than 10 in this shop. The rest all met the .5 MOA requirement with factory ammo. If they were even remotely border line we would have recommended that they be bedded.
