DO NOT BUY these items...

Re: DO NOT BUY these items...

I have a friend with 2 kids just getting started into long range shooting. He needs bags and doesn't have money to throw around at "great american crafted bean bags". If he buys these Midway bags, why should I hold it against him. It's a friggin bag filled with beads and sewn shut. They're not stealing U.S. secrets and selling them to China. It's a bag. Come on guys!

Last time I checked, Midway is still an American Company.

Let midway know how you feel (in a civil manner) and I'm sure they will pay attention. After all,it is all about the money. They may not understand why we all support Tony in any way we can, but they do understand if we stop sending money to them. Money Talks.

Re: DO NOT BUY these items...

This IS a valid argument, BUT first you must understand Midway's history towards venders. They may purchase your product for a year (proof of concept) and then it's sub farmed out to one of their trade names and made in house. If you are in the industry or at shot show, you'll understand. Look at how Brownells treats their small Mom\Pop venders. Hell just flip through the catalogs to see my point! Who's bigger? More successful...Business model for innovation from small ideas?

If you want to survive in business for very long you must be First - Better OR Cheat...What are they doing?

Goin hot no offense because we've met and I know you and you don't have any friends! Just kidding.;)
But I'm not saying go isolationist economy but when possible buy American. or your fictional friends kids will be filling their own socks with sand because they won't have jobs like dad.

As long as they're filling american made socks with non-imported sand, that'll work.

This is pretty much my beef. The only place on the web that you can find those four bags in one place is TRIAD TACTICAL. The product description that I wrote for the Triad Wedge was so good that that they stole that as well, too lazy to come up with something original. Tweaking somebody idea is nothing new, but running off with four at the same time is something else.

Patents in the nylon business are rare, but good ideas are everywhere.

Thanks for all the positive comments. Stu, Tony, keep plugging.

Re: DO NOT BUY these items...

I haven't ordered from midway in probably 4 years. A lot of their inventory is overpriced, shit, or overpriced shit, and then their shipping is ridiculous. I spend my money wisely, where it does the most good, on both sides.

PS: Thanks for reminding me that I need new equipment from both, Red Tac and TAB gear, Via Triad. :p

GoinHot,
Nope, no state secrets stolen here and yes, Midway is a US company.

Why don't you do this:
Type an email with your friends name and shipping address in it. Include the fact that he is just getting started in the sport. Ask for a fee sample of the Wedge Rear Bag to help him out. Send that email to the contact info at Midway email and the the contact email at www.triadtactical.com. See which company will be more willing to help him out. I'll bet on Triad ;-)

Re: DO NOT BUY these items...

I have spent about $4k last year at midway. After seeing this, I will not be shopping at Midway. I do shop at Triad, and own all three products, actually a few of each.

I hope that the shooting community gets together and start boycotting Midway. I hope I stop seeing midway adds on here as well !

Re: DO NOT BUY these items...

Goin'Hot to you it's a friggin bean bag, to me it's how my daughter makes a living. She works full time for TAB GEAR and every bag is made by her. That's why I care.

I've had plenty of companies offer to make TAB GEAR in factories outside the country for a FRACTION of what it costs here. I made the decision to only use American labor when my stuff is being made with American materials when I can find them.

If your buddy doesn't have the money for a couple of bean bags he can make some pretty good ones out of a couple of pants legs of some old pants. I've done it many times in the past and is what I'd recommend before I'd steer him toward the copies from Midway. If that's not an option have him contact me and I'll donate two bags to him for his kids to start out with.

I do appreciate the support for our small businesses from most of you. This is all we do now so I'll stick up for it at every turn when I see our livelihood threatened, whether it's from an American company or a foreign one.

We're not talking about where they're made, we're talking about a US company outsourcing and "Stealing" someone Else's un-patented and un-trademarked design/description. And the second you try and regulate that guess what... you're no longer a Capitalist society but a Socialist.

"US Made" products are not 100% US because they're assembled here either. You might want to ask yourself where that cotton came from... Like Pakistan. Thread... China... If they don't want people doing cheap mock-ups off their product then they need to patent the product.

Triad, Badger, Red Tac... I feel for you... but it's business and you all had to have known that sooner or later someone was going to replicate your product. We live in a competitive market. There's no legal remedy so do the next best thing... compete and offer more innovative and better products. Calling Midway and berating some phone rep is pointless except if to make yourself feel better. If they were interested in moral or ethical solutions they wouldn't have copied your products, but they did. All the consumers shouting "Foul Play!" are ignorant to Capitalism and Business.

The "Buy American" bus is getting old. Americans have become entitled and lazy. Demanding we buy American to create an American job is retarded at best. Maybe we should try importing less and exporting more. Maybe we should try not believing we're entitled to a job or product to be made here simply because it's a US company. Maybe we should quit letting Unions go on strike at every opportunity to demand more money and thus creating outsourcing when companies get fed up with the BS. Maybe we should get off our asses and work at it rather than whine like "Occupiers" and demand things that are not ours to demand. Maybe we should quit blaming some President and go after the real problem like our entire Legislative Branch. Maybe... But probably not as I'm sure the next comments will be to defend some imaginary insult of a vendor, or blame a President for an entire Governments disability, or to praise Unions blah blah blah... lol

Re: DO NOT BUY these items...

I bought a butt bag from Dog Gone Good Bags (Oregon based small company). I have had it for 10 years. I started to tear and leak beads after lots and lots of abuse. I called the company and left a message. The owner called me back and told me he is sending me a new one back. No receipt, records or anything required. I then purchased an additional different sized bag. He is sending it to me ASAP. He told me not to send him any money for the additional bag I purchased till after I received it to make sure that it iis what I wanted. This is what an American based and manufacturing company is all about. Outstanding customer service and a guaranteed quality product. This guy will have my business for life. Make great quality stuff and provide outstanding customer service and the rest will take car of itself. Support American made products.

Nice offer but, that's not the point. He’s not looking for a handout. I have 2 of the bags that Triad sells. They work. I'm perfectly happy with them and I have directed other shooters to your company. They have the discretionary money to buy the gear you sell.

I set the new guy up with a rifle and ammo that was his to use at his discretion, no charge, no strings attached. He decided he liked shooting and wanted to buy his own gear because he didn't like the "hand out's". Felt like he was taking advantage of the situation. He’s starting in the same way that most of us have.

If you "as a company" start helping all of the newbies out by giving them free gear, when ever they asked for it, where will that land you at the end of the year when you're trying to make ends meet. The books are the books. Either the numbers work or they don’t. I buy American when I can but, I can’t expect everybody that I shoot with to do the same.

So by that statement a non-American company is incapable of offering that same kind of customer support or service?

How can you accept a "free" bag when it wore out? How can you expect him to stay in buisness? Why did you leave him a message????? You should have just ordered a replacment bag and been done with it. This is like calling the tire company and saying "my tires wore out in 50,000 miles" and the company sending you 4 new tires. Shits gonna wear out!!!

Not to pick on you but, this seems to be where society is heading today. "I bought your product 10 years ago and it wore out. You need to replace it for me."

Here is link to a forum who most of the makers of these bags (and their distributors/fans/customers) are members of.

It would be a whole lot more American and supportive to contact the originators, creators and distributors of these bags to see what kind of bulk deal could be made to carry their products. They put the time, money and effort into developing these products only to see them swiped and cheapened by another American company purely for their own profit. This will hurt them and does not support our country whatsoever.

Keep it in America please!

Especially in these hard and trying times when so many Americans are struggling to stay alive and keep their families fed.

Just sent that to Midway and Potterfields email address'

Re: DO NOT BUY these items...

I haven't seen the Midway version, but I just received 3 bags this week from Triad. I for one appreciate quality, so I will be going back to Triad. I'm sick of subpar gear lasting one or two shooting sessions.

But, I suppose there will always be those just looking for the cheaper price...

Re: DO NOT BUY these items...

I think you guys are missing an important point.

I choose to buy my gear from vendors who support the tactical shooting community.

We all know who these people and companies are: Tony @ TAB, Stu at Redtac, Steve @ Triad, Marty @ Badger, George @ GAP...

What comes around goes around folks.

The world is round.

Do you have any idea of what you're talking about? Have you ever been to China? My family happens to own a few businesses there (tourism) and they are free to do whatever they want. Much less regulation there than here (which is not necessarily a good thing, patents and these knockoffs being case and point). But it is FAR removed from forced communist labor and "slaves".

As far as these bags go. Triad's customer service has earned my business and I will continue to buy from them despite cheaper offerings. I'd be curious as to whether or not triads vendors have a case against midway.

Who's not supporting them? All of us still buy their products and stand by their quality. The problem is people expecting everyone to get up in arms over a competitor selling a cheap knock-off. It's business... If you stand by your product, your service, and your business model then they should have nothing to fear except more clients when they get fed up with Midway. Competition is a healthy aspect of all business...

Re: DO NOT BUY these items...

I will support a Hide vendor before ever getting my gear from a different source, if the Hide vendor carries it or has it in stock. Even if it means paying a little extra, I'd rather pay extra and know it's supporting the shooting community rather than give my money to a giant wholesaler (MidwayUSA) who, more than likely, is importing the shit from communist fucking China!

Flip side of that coin. I Don't know if these products discussed say life time warranty or not, but just products in general... Remember back in the day a life time warranty meant life time...Well not any longer, its the life of the product. When it takes a shit, well warranty is over thats todays lifetime warranty.

Buy another and be done with it. Its not like your buying a $2k NF.

I'm on a cell phone right now but, yeah, I get what you're saying and some things can't be avoided because pretty much anything these days having to do with technology is made overseas along with damn near everything else. However, anytime I have a choice to support the little guy, that's where my money will go. I do what I can to purchase American when it's available.

Re: DO NOT BUY these items...

This thread is kind of eye opening. I would like to spout off a few political theories, but I don't want to get banned or ruin this thread. We as a society really have to dig deep and change our purchasing habits. I am in the market for rear bag, and Midway will not get my money.

Also, I don't think you should get a replacement bag after ten years. The only call I would have made would be to thank the owner and to order two more.

Re: DO NOT BUY these items...

I'd agree, it's an eye opener. I see some of midway's stuff, in fact these bags and it almost spurred me to make a purchase.

I like to support american made items and businesses when I can. I always felt like Midway was an American company, but I guess they are farming out like many other companies. Unfortunate.... along with their shipping prices. They charged me a additional fee b/c my order was less than $25. That pissed me off!!

+1
I have gear from all of the companies listed above, and they are all great products. I even picked up a couple more TAB items during a recent Rifles Only PR course. C'mon -- having Tony in my face during the mousetrap drills was alone worth the price of admission.

I don't think I'll ever forget, "Dude, if you slap that trigger one more time I'm ripping that watch from your wrist and selling it on E-Bay."

They sell an inferior version, all for the sake of lowering the price by a couple bucks I'm sure.
