I posted this before & got no response. I know someone has some input.

I've got a 6.5 Grendel barrel and the muzzle threads on it are 9/16, and I need them to be 5/8.

Please provide pros/cons of a) cutting down & re-threading barrel, b) using a 9/16 to 5/8 muzzle thread adapter.

Will the muzzle adapterr affect accuracy anymore than cutting 1/4" off a 24" barrel?

Re: Do thread adapters affect accuracy?

it depends in my exp. mostly cheep ones do not, take the gun to gun smith or machinist have them make you one out of SS or high carbon crome-molly the run of the mill mass produced ones i wouldn't bother

they effect accuracy if the brake or can is hit by the projectile, so that's why i say git yours made for your gun

my .02$

got an AAC one on mine and only thing i notice is a PING sound.
no effects on accuracy

Re: Do thread adapters affect accuracy?

I don’t like adapters for cans. The reason why is something called Tolerance Stacking.

By using an adapter you have introduced two more tolerances to the equation. I will concede the are probably small, but I feel it’s the wrong way to get it done.

How much would a baffle strike or loss of accuracy cost you ? Vs. the money upfront to have it threaded right ?

Re: Do thread adapters affect accuracy?

I had a pair of adapters, and in both cases the adapters (with the can) caused half moa rifles to open up to 3-4 moa rifles. The same can on five barrels and counting that were correctly threaded for the can consistently shoot better than half moa. I no longer use thread adapters for single point suppressors.

Re: Do thread adapters affect accuracy?

+1 For Tolerance Stacking. Precision and mass production are rarely used in the same sentence. A little imperfection here combined with a little imperfection there and then you spent $$$ on a system that won't work. While this is uncommon, why take the chance? Been there, done that, and I won't do it again.

Re: Do thread adapters affect accuracy?

if everything is done right and the tolerances are kept to an extreme minimum then an adapter is perfectly fine BUT it must also be installed and torqued properly. Too much torque can cause excess tension to be be imparted on the barrel area near the crown. Concentricity and precise shoulders are key to preventing a catastrophic failure.
