I would like to get a higher power variable scope for a single shot .223 I just got. I got it with base and rings, that's why I want the 1 Inch scope. I would like something decent quality for about $1000. Any ideas?

I think a 1" scope will look properly proportioned on my Ruger No1. I also think it will be lighter to carry afield. Is that a problem?

I spoke with E.O. today about a Z3. Lots of back and forth over what should be on my compact sporter [ 527 in 223 ] .
I buyin one. Light, crisp and 4a reticle. Great value from them as well.
I will only shoot this to 300yds and have been shooting at this range all my life 'in air'. Optical brilliance and size fits the bill on this one.

now we know what gun you are putting the scope on. i've got 1" tubed scope on my number 1 and it fits very well..

Ziess Conquest 1" scopes might be worth a look.

Their 6.5-20x50mm runs ~$1k, and is available with hunting or target turrets and a few different reticles.

Their are other smaller models available too.

For the #1 staying with a 1 inch tube is a good idea since you may need to buy the offset rings that Ruger sells in order to mount the scope back far enough. They only come in 1 inch.

Longest eye relief is the thing to look for here. The Ziess 3x9 by 40 has 4 inches, which is probably the min you would want without getting these rings.

The other thing to watch for is how much the eye relief changes through the magnification range, which is why I wouldn't get a Leupold in the 6-20 mag. 3-14 would be okay.

I don't have a Ziess to know if it changes too much.

    +1 for Zeiss conquest

I have two zeiss conquest scopes. One is the 4.5-14x50 and the other is the 6.5-20x50. They are hard to beat for the money. I use mine in low light hunting situations and I love both of them. They both have the target turrets and they have proven to be very consistant for me.
