I always wanted to ask my two brothers, but I never did. They were both in the service, but I was not.

Would someone please explain to me the story behind the words "dog tags". There has got to be a story behind it, and it is probaably an interesting one. So would someone pass on a little information here. Thanks, Tom.

Doggies? come on Capt. that sounds too cute, how about hounds of hell, or something along those lines lol.

Re: Dog Tags

Oh I'm aware of the history of the term of being dog-faced, I was just busting crumpmd's chops for saying doggy.

As a side note, its kind of funny that one of the individuals the term came from was Audie Murphy, someone who was even more baby faced than me lol.

Re: Dog Tags

The original Dog's Of War were set loose. The phrase has been passed down through generations of our Story Telling Warriors from one generation to the next. The 'dog tags' jingled like the ones on your favorite pup growing up so the name stuck way back when. The Marines earned the name Devil Dog(Teufel Hunden) in the Bellou Woods in WWI. The name has carried on since the Time of the Warrior and has been used on each generation in one form or another.
Some phrases and names are written history, however, so many are the stories from one Warrior to the next so that they may live from generation to generation. As I have received those stories so shall I pass them down one day to the right Warrior who is Keaka Koa as I am Keaka Koa Mo'Oana Malahini, the Light Skinned Story Teller Warrior from Across the Sea.
MAny of us who have served have been selected to hear such stories. It is our duty to pass them on so that they may live forever ignighting the Warrior Spirit among our Generations of young men and women
