I'm wondering if you guys have found any Doppler radar data out there. It seems to be a bit hard to come across online.

I've found extremely detailed data for 7.62x39mm M43 and 122-gr Tula JHP-BT (tells me useless but highly interesting things such as the 140.85 m/s velocity and 6.1037 second flight time for a range of 1,582.97 metres ) but I can't seem to find any good data for more appropriate long-range calibers (I was trying to find some even for 7.62x51 and I couldn't...).

I know Lapua also has some Doppler data, but it's in the form of ballistic coefficients for different velocity ranges, which is also nice, but they don't seem to have released the "raw" data. It would be interesting to see precisely what the .338 is doing at different ranges.

Anyone run across any radar data?

It's too expensive to give away.

There are bits and pieces, mostly in the way Lapua released it.

Besides, every barrel, bullet, and condition is slightly different so what you see may not translate the way you think, or want.

Nothing beats shooting it yourself and recording the data. If you want better data, shoot more and consider multiple chronographs while doing it. On paper helps with a defined aiming point.

Goose,

there's very few places where this can be done, as the equipment runs well into the millions for even a very basic array. Even the running of the testing takes a while and requires a fairly complete staff to run the data as it comes in from downrange. We can do this here in the US at Yuma Proving Ground (YPG). I suspect there may be one or two other facilities that have the capability (Aberdeen Proving Ground, possibly?), and in Norway where we (Lapua) does ours. All are military facilities, and not open to the public in most cases. While I was with Sierra, we had some very limited access to YPG and I've shot data there on a few occasions. Unfortunately, that went by the wayside when our contact died. As a result, most of the stuff you may run across will probably be military caliber, or something that's being used in military applications. Because of our ties to the Finnish and Norwegian military, we get some pretty good access, but it's till very limited times, and has to be scheduled well in advance. Sorry, no real good answers for you here.
