perhaps a strange question, but bear with me...

I have an R700 AAC-SD that currently sits in an AICS 1.5.

I have an oppty to pick up a like new H-S Precision Pro-Series Tactical PST012 for a relative song.

I am considering the change b/c the AICS is pretty much twice as heavy as the H-S (5.55 lbs vs 2.6 lbs).

I am perfectly willing to lug around an extra 3lbs, but the lighter weight would be nice when hiking around (esp up here in the Rockies) and shooting from other-than-prone.

I understand that the AICS will outlast cockroaches, etc., etc.
I have read that the H-S will pop the bi-pod studs.
I don't much mind the detachable mag or not.

I am a civilian and will put only perhaps 600 - 1000 rds per year through the rifle.

If I were to switch to the H-S, I would sell the AICS and re-invest into other upgrades for the rifle (bipod, trigger, level, etc.).

I can't find anything that says the accuracy of the rifle would be negatively affected, and a 50% weight reduction makes sacrificing a bit of durability worth considering.

So, should I stick with AICS or ease the load with the H-S? Please let me know if you've made the switch in the opposite direction, etc.

Thanks.

I would keep both stocks. Keep the hs for when you go hiking or hunting and the aics for when you just go to the range. And you can post pics of it in either stock and people will think you have more rifles than you do.

I find that the AICS is more comfortable to shoot from prone than the HS Precision stock. Shooting from other improvised positions I find the HS Precision stock is fine. And like you say it's a lot lighter.

While I have never even seen an AI stock in the wild, I absolutely love the HSP's shape, it is the most ergonomic stock I have found in my short time on Earth. They actually fit your hand in the forend instead of a square block, like an AI. I say this with the fact that I do most of my shooting from different positions, never from a bench, and hardly ever from prone. If I do go prone, it is usually in a sling.

Get the HS stock, you'll fall in love with it!
