DPMS BUIS ?'s

Re: DPMS BUIS ?'s

The rear sight is GREAT. The front sight depends on what type of hand guard you are using.

To be honest, I would want to aim with my barrel, not my handguard for anything past 200yds

Re: DPMS BUIS ?'s

Well, I'll be using this on a Mcree stocked .308 if that matters for 300 yards and a 16.5" barrel.

I see what you mean by aiming you barrel instead of your handguard.

Thanks,

Re: DPMS BUIS ?'s

what type of gas block do you have? you might look at the YHM front flip ups, its a gas block and a flip up sight. or swapping out the gas block for one with a rail. i think that this DPMS is meant to put on a gas block. i would think using it on a hand guard may make it too high for accurate aiming unless thats what its made for. i have held one of the DPMS rear sights, but not used one. it was a quality piece.

Re: DPMS BUIS ?'s

ahhh, so i see. still the only thing i would be worried about is in the description it says for a gas block. the handgaurds are usually higher than the gas block. that may throw off your aim. i didnt realize it was a bolt gun.

Re: DPMS BUIS ?'s

If both the front and rear rails lie on the same plane would the sights still work?

If not, then can anyone recommend a good fixed front sight similar to the DPMS front sight?

Thanks,

Re: DPMS BUIS ?'s

I don't know for sure, but I would guess that you would need a front sight that's made for mounting on a handguard, not a gas block.

I have a set of YHM sights, they're a little crude in the finish department, but seem okay for BUIS.

I also saw a Midwest Industries handguard front sight on Midway, they're supposed to be a little nicer, but I've never handled them, that's just Internet hearsay.

Re: DPMS BUIS ?'s

A sight for a gas block (AR-15) is longer because the gas block is lower than the handgaurd (Different plain). If the front and back are on the same plane, you would need a "regular" front sight.

I guess they are regular because there is gas block front sights and everything else.

Re: DPMS BUIS ?'s

Well the thing with that is that it's a flip-up sight and I cannot find a fully adjustable A2 rear flip-up sight. I want both sights to either be fixed or flip-up.

Thanks for the link though,

Re: DPMS BUIS ?'s

thats gonna be rough. i cant recall a w/e adjustable rear thats flip up. possibly the DPMS mangonel? if thats spelled right. try looking thru brownells ar catalog maybe?

Re: DPMS BUIS ?'s

The sight can accomodate being on a gas block or handguard. From DPMS :

Mangonel Front Flip-Up Sight...
... The front sight has three positions: down (1st position), 2nd position for use on gas blocks, and a 3rd position when both the front sight and the rear sight is on the same rail...
