Ok, so I am in the market to get either a DPMS SASS or the DPMS REPR. Other than the add on differences and price, how do these two rifles compare on the range. More specifically at ranges out past 600m?

i have both ...the better of the two is lwrc ...but to up-grade etc the dpms is easier and less costly so you need to decide which way is best for yourself ... parts of some are interchangeable for back up parts ...

I made a suggestion based on price, regardless of what he asked about. Why? Because I had been looking at the DPMS SASS and nearly picked one up but decided the money would be better spent on a rifle with better reliability and accuracy for the same price so, you can eat shit.

The statement that the POF will be more accurate is B/S, The DPMS is heavy I will give it that but it is a very accurate rifle.

I would choose the SASS. I like the look, the 18" fluted barrel and, apparently, they are accurate. I did have a LR308 A4 with standard 16" barrel once and it shot very well.

I liked the SASS configuration but not the weight. Mine didn't have the velocity to be particularly accurate past about 600-800 either.
Also unless I were to spend 2500+ I would build one for myself.

Weight isn't really and issue for me since I carried a 240B in the Army for several years.
I guess what I'm really looking for is a side by side comparison on accuracy at distances 600M and above. The more I think about it though, maybe I should just really look at the accuracy up to 600m since I'll probably really never get a shot out past that.

How often you practice and how much time and effort you put into your reloading regime will be the deciding factors accuracy wise. Rifle won't matter as much until you get the point that you can outshoot it at which time you order a new barrel and start over.
Pretty much anything can make 600-800 yards after that is when it gets interesting.
My preference is for a rifle like the DPMS MK12 308 model. Not that exact one but something similar. Telescoping stock, free floated barrel, handguards that allow you to mount things to them and a weight under 10lbs.

Look at what Overkill did with his DPMS REPR. As evident by what you see below, DPMS has really stepped up their game.. That said, I must rescind my comment made previously about accuracy.

That is just unbelievably GOOD! I'd say the Shooter has a lot to do with this too since it is definitely a lot harder to drive a semiauto accurately compare to a Bolt Gun...But man, that is some serious shooting and performance for the DPMS Squad!

That is just unbelievably GOOD! I'd say the Shooter has a lot to do with this too since it is definitely a lot harder to drive a semiauto accurately compare to a Bolt Gun...But man, that is some serious shooting and performance for the DPMS Squad!

to be fair, it IS a Kreiger bbl on that one there
. I used to work there and built that REPR when we were still looking for a supplier for the barrels. Kreiger made me a one off in .260 for my prototype build. I left before they decided on who was going to supply them, but it was between 3 top end makers. Kreiger, walther, and another i dont recall (but i want to say white oak).
the SASS is also generally very accurate.
this is a 10 shot group with the one i used to own. had to sell it last year to pay for house stuff...
yea, i know, fliers...but it was windy as hell and a freakin icecream pail blew into me when the shot broke! there are 10 rounds in the included group. with the flier its still under MOA.
REPR will be lighter and has a higher likely hood of accuracy.
SASS is cheaper, can be quite accurate, but is for someone with big arms or that doesn't plan to shoot on the go as much.

I really wish there was more hands on type feedback especially on the DPMS REPR because the REPR and SASS are both rifles I'm considering for my next buy.
I was considering a build with a DPMS or Black Rain upper and lower but when it is all said and done I can build one for the same price as I can pick up a complete DPMS even getting all my parts at a discount. Depending on set up I priced a build at around $2k with middle of the road options to keep the price down. On the other hand I can pick up a REPR for $2200 so I'd really like to hear how a factory DPMS REPR actually shoots in the hand of a decent shooter.

I have a SASS bought it before the REPR.... shoots great! deadly out to 1000 far enough for a gas gun... not a big fan of the trigger but that is easy enough to fix!

same rifle, except REPR has a lighter fore end and a different barrel. Spend the cash on the SASS, sell the quad rail, and get into something like a Troy MRF, Badger, or APEX...My SASS is a great rifle.
With the accuracy folks are getting out of their SASS's, I doubt the 700.00 difference (or whatever it is now) would predicate a significant difference in accuracy. In fact, at the REPR's price, you're not far from a GAP 10!!
