I really didnt think my SASS was heavy enough so I bought a YHM Phantom for it! Suppressor is great as far as accuracy is concerned and POI shift is very minimal BUT! About every third or forth rnd fails to eject and causes me a pain in the ass! When it runs through a mag it will not hold the bolt open. What would help this? Adjustable gas block? Heavier bullet weight? Hotter load? Or do I have a really heavy single shot rifle? Rather not change out the gas block if I dont have too! New to the can game so all input would appreciated!

(Functions on a 223 AR perfectly)

Re: DPMS SASS and YHM 7.62 can

Nope.....Runs perfect without the can. Without the can it throws brass 5-6' away, with the can it throws it 2' or so

Wouldnt ya think gas problem???

Re: DPMS SASS and YHM 7.62 can

The brass isnt chewed up any more than normal.

Splain to me bout the heavier buffers please? Aftermarket? DPMS?

I doubt I'm the only one to screw a can on a SASS with this problem???

Let me add this, Took it out last weekend for the first time, Can not the rifle. It was dirty from the last range trip so I didnt bother cleaning it. I ran a couple of mags through it suppressed and only had 1 or 2 hicups. This time I cleaned the rifle and the bolt was pretty wet as I tend to run my AR's that way, The temp was in the 20's and snowing and windy as hell, Could the Break free thickin up at that temp and cause me this problem?

Now...How do I know which spring to get? I hear heavier but If it doesnt shove the bolt far enough to the rear to lock the bolt open doesnt that mean I need to go the other way?

Learning here so be gentle!

Re: DPMS SASS and YHM 7.62 can

Boltripper refered me to Tubbs spring as well... thanks by the way., its about twice as long as your standard buffer spring but its flat not circular so it fits and runs smoother with "more force" than ur standard buffer spring, i run one in my Armalite super sass, i can say, it cant hurt... give it a try.

When you shoot unsuppressed, the pressure that passes through the gas tube is normal, all things operate correctly. If you have an equal pressure balance from the gas tube and force from the actual chamber then the bolt cycles with enough force to send the BCG all the way to the rear. When you add a suppressor to the mix, it creates an unequal amount of pressure. The imbalance causes the bolt carrier group to cycle back sooner than it should, so it short strokes. The Tubb spring or heavier buffer causes more forward force on the BCG, which allows the BCG to stay in place for just a shorter period, this short period allows the pressure to balance itself through the gas tube and chamber, in turn, cycles the bolt fully to the rear.

Re: DPMS SASS and YHM 7.62 can- Round 2!

Thanks for help guys, Tried the Tubbs buffer spring and seems to eject okay now but it still wont hold the bolt open on the last round. (Runs perfect without the can)

What can I try next? Heavier buffer? If so what do I look for and who has em!?

From what Ive read it looks ike its gonna be a pain to get an Adj. gas block.

Thanks

Re: DPMS SASS and YHM 7.62 can- Round 2!

There is a possibility the BCG is moving too fast and over riding the bolt stop on an empty mag. To check this load one round and fire, while you are firing hold your finger on the bolt stop applying pressure to help it pop up after the rifle is fired. If it locks open then clean, deburr, adjust the bolt stop & spring, and add a heavier buffer.

Searcher, What Adj.gas block did you use? And what mods did you have to do to it?
