I finally managed to shoot my new to me SASS .308 Saturday. It was after my pistol falling plate match, so i was a little tired and cold. This wasn't a true range trip, but I did manage to confirm it has a firing pin.
My first impression- the PWS comp and Buffer Tech hydraulic buffer coupled with the semi-auto action tames the .308 a lot. It didn't feel as if it had much more recoil than a .223.
At first I was hitting somewhere off the target backboard. I couldn't figure it out until I remembered that the rifle I last had the scope mounted on had a 20moa base, and this LT-104 on the SASS is 0 moa. That seems to make a difference.
This rifle does not seem to be picky about what load I shoot through it, but it does have a slight preference for 43gr os RL15 under a 175gr SMK.
I didn't do much more than get it sighted in, but I did have one group that had 10 rounds within a 1" group. Not too bad considering I was shooting off bags, but the buttstock was just in my shoulder. I couldn't hold it completely still after shooting a rimfire then a centerfire pistol match.

More when I take it out again.

It's the FSC30. It was cloudy, but not dark, and I don't remember much of a flash. I wasn't really thinking about it though. I was really short on time. I think that with an 18" barrel if there was much flash I would have noticed.

Interested in your results with your FSC30. I'm wanting one for my own SASS build. I've got an FSC556 on my RRA and love it.
How was it with follow ups? I realize that you were on bags as you said but how much jump did you notice?

Re: DPMS SASS range trip

I noticed some jump, but that may have been from me having a semi-bad position. Our range's benches are concrete and the way they are made you can't get directly behind the weapon.
I had the folded bipod rested on the bags to get the mag high enough. I noticed the scope coming just high enough for me to lose the target. A better position would have helped.
Next trip will be prone and squared up.
It seems that when I had a bolt rifle it would jump more. I almost managed to keep the target in view with the SASS.

Re: DPMS SASS range trip

My LR-308 likes 168 gr Hornady A-max over 44.0 gr Varget.

Seriously a 0.50 MoA rifle. Got the targets to prove it.

I had one for a week... I bought it as a dual purpose gun for inbetween my SBR AR and bolt actions... Apparently when brand new they dont feed surplus ammo AT ALL. It ate the winchester I had, but I didnt buy it for 800 yard shoots and kinda defeated the purpose so sold it and bought a Sig 716.

For the guy questioning the PWS, I liked it so much on the Sig that I put one on my other Sig, and my savage 308... INCREDIBLE brake and extremely effective! Just make sure no one you like is standing near the gun when youre shooting... They wont be your friend much longer!

I have a sass with a badger stabilizer handguard and it is the heaviest rifle I own. Weighing in at almost 16lbs. I never shoot it anymore. But I do have a PWS PRC comp and it is awesome. I have considered buying another and using it as a thread protector when I'm not shooting suppressed.

I also own a DPMS SASS with a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22X50 ZS HST on it. I also own an LMT MWS with Nightforce NXS 3.5-25X50 ZS HST scope and a PRS stock on it and an Armalite AR10A4 also with a PRS stock and a Vortex 4-16X50 PST FFP. The SASS is my favorite and most accurate rifle of the 3. Will consistently 5 shoot 100 yard groups under 0.75" sometime less. Only down side is that it is very heavy.
