I was thinking about selling my SASS to make room for the LMT 308 I so desperately want. Then I thought why not keep the SASS and maybe tune it up a bit.

I've heard that the weakest part of the SASS is the trigger. What other upgrades have you guys tried or recommend?

I bought mine used and the guy who owned it before switched the trigger springs with yellow AR15 springs. I fixed that, but I still don't feel that my SASS shoots "smooth." I also have a first gen with the VLTOR stock. I'd like to update that and see if that makes a little smoother.

Re: DPMS SASS upgrades

I have a Jard trigger in my SASS and it is really a nice pull. If I were to change it I would go with the Geissele DMR trigger. Then I would get a Magpul PRS stock. After that if you are still not satisfied and you have more money than you can change barrels to a Bartlein or Rock or whatever barrel you want.

Keep the SASS - they are nice shooters.

Re: DPMS SASS upgrades

I PUT a Rock River single stage match in mine it is slick,I installed the CWS with heavies,I don't think You can get much better than the SASS from what I see with my results.

I get tight groups repeatable and only 1/2 MOA Low shift with my can.

I have been looking for such a weapon for years and always turned my nose up at DPMS LR308 for ARMALITE T series which 3 Times did not meet my standards.

Did you get any more velocity out of it with the carrier weight system? </div></div>

I have had limited time with the load before I installed it,I don't Know..

I am about to work up a 175GR Nosler comp,I will try it both ways and I will Let you know..

Re: DPMS SASS upgrades

I did some looking at the Geissele DMR trigger. Seems to be very highly regarded. I have a feeling that once I swap out that trigger I will be much happier with it. Anyone have anything to say about the Geissele in a SASS?

Did you notice a difference in feel and group size after the CWS? I've looked at that before but haven't heard much in the way of opinion..

limited time with it in there ,realy I just want to slow the thing down and stay locked up longer, thinking the mass added would help lower the brass strech.

Re: DPMS SASS upgrades

I put a Geissele DMR in a DPMS 308 AP4 and it really helped with closing up the groups. It is an easy install and it works wonders for the feel of the rifle. Just my 2 cents.

Re: DPMS SASS upgrades

Did you have any feed problems with yours asm? I know I had to polish the ramps and bend the feed lips on my magazines a little bit to get it feeding right. When I first used it it destroyed the tips on hollow point bullets as the feed ramps had these sharp ridges on them about half a millimeter in height.

Re: DPMS SASS upgrades

I have not Had that problem,I did have extraction problems,I think I will look closer at the ramps tomorrow,my 175 noslers do get a he'll of a mark on them, but this is when I take a loaded round out of the chaimber I think the inside lugs of the barrel extension are digging in on extraction and all.

The feedramps in mine just needed to be polished, that's all. I've seen it on all sorts of AR's.

edit: I only noticed this when I used hollow points loaded to 2.81-2.82 length.

Re: DPMS SASS upgrades

Unless you were having feed problems you didn't need to do that, but I doubt you hurt anything. I know lots and lots of guys who polish feedramps with a dremel.

If you have to send it back to DPMS for work though I wouldn't mention the word "dremel" though.

Re: DPMS SASS upgrades

I figured that it would not hurt. Early on I was getting some FTFs but I think that was an issue that was created by the wrong trigger springs put in by the previous owner. Either way I think it will help.

Noted on the usage of the D word
