Hi All,

For those of your with a DTA SRS A1 with a barrel conversion... do you have this occur:

1. Zero at 200 yards with Sub 0.5 MOA.
2. pull barrel out
3. put barrel back in
4. first shot: 4 inches high at 200 yards (relatively consistently)
6. Second shot: 2 inches high at 200 yards (again, relatively consisntently)
7. POI back to zero at 200 yard and consistent.

Is this standard for everyone in the same position as me ?

I run 243 and 338LM Benchmark barrels and Gen2 extensions, POI is very consistent between barrel swaps. I have fired a round through the 243 barrel and then installed the 338LM barrel and fired a round, there is a POI shift from barrel to barrel but after returning to the original caliber it will group in the same location every time. I'm not sure why you are experiencing what you are. What are you torqueing barrel retention screws to?

I've never had that happen. If I put my .338LM barrel in and dial the scope to the settings for that barrel its pretty much right on. If I pull the barrel and reinstall it the poi is the same. I've never seen a change to speak of. If I swap in the .338BR or 6.5 X 47 barrel and dial in the scope for them the poi is where it should be. I've not seen much variation in any of them and they've been very consistent. You need to make sure your barrel is fully seated, lock the bolt into it and use the same procedure each time to torque the locking bolts. You may have some sort of schmutz in there as well so clean it all out to make sure its not affecting things.

No. Never been a problem senior.

I was also told that i should not be getting this error. After 3 weeks talking to DTA, they have told me this:

" we add in what I have been calling the “Cold Conversion” shot. Every SRS, Covert and HTI has this. Basically it is exactly what you have been seeing in your shooting and what you very clearly demonstrated in the video you made. The very first shot from a newly seated barrel is going to be off zero by some degree. I see you zero at 200 yards, with your first shot, you look to be 2MOA from point of aim, then after that the rifle returns to zero and all is well".

In other conversations with them, they have told me that basically every DTA in the world will NOT return to its POI without one of 2 Conversion shots..... THis is the second related post i have put up, and the people out in the real world tell me that nobody has a problem, except me, and DTA tells me the opposite...

I'm pretty pissed off, because shooting 2 x 338 LM rounds every time i change the barrel at $2.50 a shot isnt exactly what i expected...

I have never had this happen to me. How much are you torquing the nuts

i torque it till it clicks.....

Its not a torque problem, because once it has a couple of shots through it, it is consistently 0.5 MOA or better... It has done it from brand new, so there is no issue with stuff being stuck in there or anything.

I agree with what people are suggesting, but DTA is saying this is a normal phenomena that everyone experiences, just cannot seem to find a person representing the group of 'everyone'...

nope mine shoots within a half inch of the last shot unless the temperature changes by 20 degrees or more. 338 to 308 back and forth always the same poi.

what amazes me, is DTA is telling me the complete opposite of:

1. what the manual and their advertising says
2. everyone else who seems to own one

They are saying i need to account for the POI change for the first 1 or 2 shots, and that EVERY RIFLE SOLD IN THE WORLD has this issue. THen you go out into reality, and it seems i might be the only person. Also funny, was that when i raised the issue, they said "never heard of this, let us ask our sponsored shooter what his opinion is..." getting very quickly pissed off with the situation.

Not only are all of my barrels entirely consistent between swaps, they are consistent each time between two different chassis - my SRS and covert

As others have pointed out, make sure everything is entirely clean.

My routine:

1) Rifle on butt vertical, place barrel into chassis, seated properly
2) close bolt
3) engage barrel lock
4) using sekonk 70" # torque wrench tighten each bolt from safety area down to the 4th behind grip

This routine works for me, I understand this may not work for you.

Perhaps you might try some different ammunition just for grins (which of course makes no sense)

Also, I know does not make sense either, but check your optic and mount

I agree...you situation is not normal in my limited experience

I've got a dta gen2 and switch between 4 conversion kits. I have a rough idea of what my poi shifts will be between the calibers, but I don't live or die by them. When I swap calibers I make sure that the process is always the same. I also re-zero my rifle which usually only takes a shot or two. With that said, I don't notice any "cold conversion kit" settling going on.

I recently worked with DTA on an issue that I had with one of their conversion kits that I bought. They didn't get it resolved after having the kit for a month and I wasn't exactly confident that they would if I sent it back for another month. I eventually had a local guy resolve the issue.

This is easily my favorite rifle that I own and is what I shoot 99% of the time. Hopefully your experience with the DTA warranty dept will be better if you do end up having to send your rifle in.
