Rifle Scopes Dumb question - Do scopes come with the turrets centered?

Just curious, but do scopes come from the factory with their elevation and windage adjustments centered in their adjustment range? Call me lazy, but it would save a little time counting from stop-to-stop...

The simple answer would be maybe???

Some manufacturers may put the scopes at their optical center as thats where the image quality is best, but once mounted to a rifle that changes depending on your setup (canted base, height above bore, etc). Unless you come across a limited range on elevation clicks after you zero, I wouldn't worry about it. I just mount the scope, get it zero'd and shoot. Sometimes I crank the elevation turret "up" after zero and usually I find that I have more than enough.

That's why I was wondering. If the scope came centered, and say it had 50 mil adjustment in elevation...when I go to zero it and use 20 mils up...then I would only have 5 mils left to play with.

When I put my Buckmaster on the 300wm I had, I used A LOT of elevation adjustment to get it sighted in.

Thanks

You need a scope base with some amount of MOA built into it that way you don't top out on the elevation adjustment 'UP'. My guess would be a 20MOA base should be more than enough for 1000 yards.

The farthest I'll ever shoot around here is 500yds. The only way to get out further is to know someone with private land...and even that is hard to do here in the mountains...
