Gunsmithing Duracoat Reducer Needed

A buddy of mine gave me two spray guns that he used with Duracoat, and they are gummed up badly. I tried spraying water through one of them, and barely got a mist!

I know that the Duracoat Reducer would be best for cleaning these, but I only have a 16 oz. bottle to use with my airbrushes, and that stuff isn't cheap!

So, I want to bath the guns in a reducer for several days to break up the gunk in them, and repair them back to usable condition.

Any thoughts?

take me apart and clean em up that way. Much better than just soaking them. Also if the duracoat is setup in there, just soaking them probably won't cut it anyways! I would use as much of a lacquer thinner or acetone as possible to do the clean up, much cheaper as well.

I loaned a buddie a hvlp, got it back clogged up with duracoat. Used carb cleaner, just don't get alot of it on anything plastic and none on o rings. Denatured alcohol works but not as fast and easily.

Don't get carbine cleaner on any of the plastic as it will most likely eat em!

Did he use a hardener? If so, you might not get it out. A rebuild kit may be needed.

Make sure to clean everything in as warm an area as possible. The warmer it is the easier it is for the solvent to act. You know....basic chem

I agree with tacticalJ try the acetone or laquer thinner first. If it doesnt work then go a more expensive route with the reducer.

Oreilly's brake clean works great. I have used it for years to clean my guns up after duracoat. I said, Oreilly's not WalMart or Auto Zone. I don't know what the difference is in the formulas but duracoat knows and it doesn't like it.
