effect of painting my m40a1 clone

GAP is building me an M40A1 clone complete with MST-100 scope. Does it effect the value of my rifle if I paint it?

I guess to each their own... for me unless it is a return stock with worn paint it is less valuable. I much prefer them naked over someone's rattle can work.

Paint comes off. My rifles aren't investment pieces, they're for me to use and enjoy. If you plan on selling it for retained value later, then have it built then hibernate it for a couple decades. Otherwise, have fun.
