For a AR15 to be used from 1-300 or 400 yards, what would you pick and why?
    Elcan 1-4
Nightforce 1-4 with circle dot reticle and quick knob attachment
    Aimpoint

    Thanks.

    EOTech!!!
Honestly, I love the flexibility of the EOTech 557 with 4x FTS.
The Elcan I've heard has issues holding zero when you flip it back and forth, but I've not used it so I can't really say.
All the 1-4 scopes are nice, but a switch is easier to hit in a hurry than having to twist a tube. And its faster...
Plus the EOTech is more friendly to shooting offhand and in less than ideal conditions because you dn't have to be directly behind the sight.
And I never liked the Aimpoint. Many do, I'm not one of them...

TR24 1-4X is exactly what you are looking for. Elcan zero retenion is spotty and the ARMS mount is so so. NF is excellent and so is Aimpoint.

IMO 300-400 yard is ACOG territory.. you can pick up a used one for around $900.00

My two cents.. and yes I have one on my ACR and works great at that distance

I would say the NF also.

An ACOG would be good also, although not one of your choices it might be something to consider.

    Re: Elcan 1-4 v. NF 1-4 v. Aimpoint??

If im reading the OP qestion right, hes looking to 0-400 yds. An ACOG at under 50 yds is not as quick as a 1x red dot. Notice all of his options have a 1x setting.

I recently was wondering some of the same questions, with the eotech / aimpoint, you have a parallax free scope, something neither of the other two offer. I dont know crap about the elcan becides they cost some $$$$$.

I was planing on running a trijicon 1-4 on 1x all the time and extending out to 4X when needed, but Im still thinking about what to do.

    Re: Elcan 1-4 v. NF 1-4 v. Aimpoint??

If you want a "true" 1x and 4x option (aside from the ELCAN)I think an ACOG (either 3.5x or 4x) with an Aimpoint T-1 or similar dot sight mounted tandem with the main optic is the way to go.

However with the T-1 mounted offset on the right side with the weapon shouldered (IF you're a righty), it might feel awkward when shooting weak side (left side) but I still think its fine with a little practice.

S&B shortdot is good also. At least when I shot with it to me it seemed perfect. At 1.1x turn up the illumination and use it just like an aimpoint. Need a little more magnification crank it up to 4x and the CQB reticle comes out with hash marks for holds.

    Re: Elcan 1-4 v. NF 1-4 v. Aimpoint??

I've ran an EO Tech with a 3x magnifier on it and it worked out really well. I'm currently using a Leupold CQT w/ illum ret and am not very impressed. I've also used an ACOG for quite a bit and enjoyed it. Great for mid range and I've run it through a couple of shoot houses without any problems. I've used an Aimpoint as well, not a fan. Not to say there's anything wrong with them, just my personal preference. If you like them I think you'd do well with a magnifier on a FTS mount.

Yeah the Leupold CQT is a dog. The EoTech with the magnifier is a pretty good setup, but for some reason it just didn't do it for me.
