Why did the Mercenaries start shooting up Elysium I didn't understand that part.

Overall the movies was a decent flick.

I was given the impression that the main merc was a nutcase + wanted to take control of Elysium and that is why they shot up the place and murdered jodi foster.

This^^^^^

I just watched it about an hour ago. Not bad, not great either.

I had heard that there was a leftist agenda worked into the plot. All I saw was what you would expect from long term Socialism. And a little hint to the final outcome of o-care. Maybe I am just seeing what I want to see.

And I'll take a Chemrail gun too. And that nifty energy shield.

I had heard that too.

What I saw I wouldn't consider "leftist" or "socialism", but rather a rather dystopian image of what it might look like if the "have" vs. "have not" gap in the world continues to grow. Or rather, the rich have everything and everybody else has nothing and are essentially disposable serfs to the wealthy.

Definitely didn't get *anything* about Obamacare, especially since the director is from South Africa.

I personally liked it better than District 9, which also was laced with subtle social messages.

Yeah, you're just seeing what you want to see. Looking at every film with a political or ideological filter can be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Elysium... meh. Watched it on the plane to Manila a month ago and wasn't that impressed. The movie had some potential, but the story went in the expected direction. The one bright spot was watching a ruthless Jody Foster.

Enter "The Wizard of Oz". So many stories about that movie and any record album to be played along with it.
