Not trying to start a "which is better" but what are the features and advantages of each which made you buy them? I'm shopping a "red dot" for my AR when I'm shooting "CQB" matches ranges 10 -50 yrds. After 300 - 500 yrd F- Class, I will remove my 2.5-10X32 and it's Unimount and throw on the red dot.

Which one do you like and why, trying to keep it to the two manufacturers. I belive you get what you pay for. But any info on the Meprolight or Leupold would be good

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint??

I have both. I like the aimpoint ruggedness/battery life but I prefer the FOV and reticle on the eotech

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint??

It depends on what is more important to you.

Eotechs have a better reticle but are more prone to failure and have relatively short battery life.

Aimpoints have a simple dot but you can leave a Comp M3/ML3 or M4 on for several years sraight without running down the battery and they rarely break down.

I was first introduced to Aimpoints in the Army and then discovered Eotechs on my own. I thought at the time "great just like an Aimpoint but even better". After accidentally leaving the thing on a few times and having to replace the batteries constantly I eventually went back to Aimpoint. Besides irons I can't think of a simpler, more rugged SHTF-type optic.

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint??

Broken record:

EoTech-better FOV and reticle
Aimpoint-bulletproof and left at the ready turned on for months on end.

I just traded into an Aimpoint that made it home from the sandbox after being in an IED encounter. Dinged up, lost a big chunk out of the aluminum behind the ocular lens, but works 100%.

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint??

From a dealer's perspective, we dropped Eotech and picked up Aimpoint. While the Aimpoints haven't sold so well, to be honest I'm still learning about these CQB optics and what you guys want and need. We have Comp M2, Comp M3, Comp M$, and T1 micro with mounts for all in stock.

That battery life and ruggedness of the Aimpoint is a huge selling point.

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint??

We see a lot of issues with Eotechs that are used in service. With the battery being in line with the recoil if you shoot a lot the battery moves and destroys the springs inside which turns off the unit. I'm pretty sure they have a model now with the battery across the unit and not in line but still, its a major problem.

We see much better results with the Aimpoint in long term use. So, while the EoTech has a great FOV it can be plagued with problems if used a lot.

Get the Aimpoint.

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint??

I am going to post some pictures of my EOTech tonight. I have owned 2, one will not work any more and the other breaks constantly. I keep it for one reason, when I teach I bring it out, open the battery compartment and dump parts out.

I own several Aimpoints and have been abusing them for years now with no failures.

Pat Rogers of EAG endorses Aimpoint and runs them on all of his personal and loaner ARs. Consider he is on the range several months a year and has had exposure to thousands of shooters and a wide variety of optics, his endorsement of Aimpoint means something.

I am temped to purchase one of the new EOTechs just to stay on top of new kit and a product that will ultimately be the headliner for them. Though the damage is done to EOTech, go over on lightfighter and they are commonly called "EOTurds".

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint??

Agree on the Aimpoint after having owned an EOTech for a short while on my first AR. Battery worries in my first Vicker's AR class sold me on Aimpoint. I was not the only one who lost their EOTech during the class due to battery issues. Since then, I've witnessed several instances of fellow officers cursing the EOTech during training.

I enjoyed shooting with the EOTech reticle, but the reliability and battery life on the Aimpoint is unbeatable. I use a T1 Micro and Comp M3 and love them.

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint??

In my small circle of friends almost everyone had their EoTech fail. No one that I know of that has a Aimpoint has ever had one go down on them. I've had a ML3 for 3 years, never turned it off, and it just won't die. I have thrown it around and beat it to shit and it just keeps on ticking.

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint??

I have both Eotech and Aimpoint they both work but the Aimpoint is a better product I.M.O..Altough I like the Eotechs display a little better. I bought the Eotech when they first came out from a Guy that bought out a store that went belly up Model 552 which is Nv cap. new in box for $60 It has held up to my 50 beowulf and can shoot 1 moa or better if I do my part. The Aimpoint is the new compM4S wich is also nv cap. and I bought it from a shop that was breaking up a weapon that was traded in $150 it sits atop my m4 carbine the weapon it was designed for. the fit and finish along with the great battery life makes it a cut above the Eotech I.M.O. also iI have heard alot of storys about the latter(before the design changes) Eotechs comming apart. I watched a fellow shooter shoot a 3/4 inch group with a Aimpoint compM4S with magnifer using a 20" 1/7 barrel and 77gr SMK so Take your pick or just get both

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint??

I had a 552 and two 512s and REALLY like the EoTech reticle for speed but ended up going with the Aimpoint because of the crazy-long battery life and bullet-proof rep.

Might not be as fast but I know it'll be there when I need it.....

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint??

I have M2, M3, M4 Aimpoints , Eotech N and AA batter versions

I have not had any reliability issues with Eotech, other than dead batteries !! Since I don't use my guns for work, its not a big deal. My M4S on the other hand has been on for a couple of years. I would certainly trust the Aimpoint not to have a dead battery over the Eotechs

The only that I like the most recticle wise is actually the Trijicon Tripower. It has dismal battery life ( been to Trijicon once already ). Since its on a daytime range gun, I just rely on the fiber optic. The Cheveron is a far more precise aiming point when you want the accuracy, but still fast like a dot

With a 3X magnifier, the ampoints can be a bit bloomy ( I always end up futzing with intensity when using magnifier ). On the other hand the Trijicon tripower is dead sharp with Aimpoint magnifier

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint??

Aimpoint. Have one on my M4 and have had it for over 4 years now and it's on the same battery it came with. I've left it on for months sometimes just forgetting about it.

My friend has an EOTech on his M4 and I really like it, but for as much as he spends buying N batteries it's a pain in the ass. True, the EOTech reticle is a bit nicer, but if you shoot with and train with the Aimpoint enough it becomes second nature.

I have the 4MOA dot one and when i turn up the brightness I can bloom it out to about 6moa so it's not this "dinky little dot" most people say it is.

If shit hits the fan and I had to rely on an optic, I'd put my money on the Aimpoint to function 100%.

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint??

I bought a eotech xps 2-2 and was disappointed in it, The reticle was spotty and the two aiming dots was too busy. I thought two dots one close one far would be better than one (I was wrong). I never even shot the eotech just put it back in its box and ordered a aimpoint M4, they are much better built. The power always on vs. turn it on for a couple hours for the eotech didn't make much difference to me prior to purchasing the two, but after owning the aimpoint I can say that it is a very nice to have feature. I only play with my guns there is no life on the line for them to work.

However leaving the aimpoint on while it is in my safe does make me feel dirty.

Re: Eotech or Aimpoint??

I tend not to trust the optics we get issued because I don't want to be in a SHTF scenario downrange and be worried if the previous Joe beat the shit out of an optic. You've got to trust your equipment 100%.

I took two optics with me on my last trip: ACOG TA01NSN and a Comp M2. Obviously, I switched them out as the situation necessitated. Other guys had EOTechs, but my gear never failed me.
