I'm trying to make some smart buys here. I wanting to buy a belt, holster and some mag carrier for pistol, shot shell holder for shotgun shell and rifle mags carriers. I want this set up to be fast and practical. I don't want things bouncing out, or to slow to be useful in a match. These were my first choices (Belts) Wilderness belt vs. CR speed which one?. Holster DOH Blade tech or a Safari Land drop leg holster. Mag holders Blade Tech/ Safari Land or military style, Shot shell holders Man on the Mountain vs. California Competion with nylon covers. Have you guys gone through this before, I did a search but no luck. Do you have some gear you use and would recomend??

what kind of competition? I use a Kramer double layer horse hide belt for IDPA. Its a great holster belt that looks good enough to wear everyday with jeans. I also have a Kramer holster that I use for my glock. It really depends on what type of comp you are going to be doing. (I'm guessing 3 gun which I don't have much experience with) Do you want race gear or pratical gear that you can compete with?

If possible, I would recommend trying (or at least handling) before buying. For daily duty I have a Safariland as well as the 6004 Safariland thigh rig for my call-out gear. They seem to do the job just fine...easy to use, decent retention, quick draw time. I'd go with the Safariland

Some folks don't like the thigh rig setup at all. Personally, I like it since I have long arms and a shorter torso. The only thing I would recommend with a thigh rig are:

1) Inner belt and keepers. If you are unfamiliar, the inner belt is a velcro belt that is worn like a typical belt. Then your duty/2" belt will go outside and stick to the velcro. Then you use the keepers and secure the outer belt to the inner. This way your belt won't sag.

2) Balance the belt. With a thigh rig alone, it feels like all the weight is on the holster side since it is anchored on my leg. I chose to put my spare mags and some gear on my opposite leg so that I am equally anchored on both legs.

Some don't like the thigh rig because it puts weight on their legs and can slow movement. While I don't feel this is much of an issue, I will admit that I only have a loaded Glock on one side and 2 mags and a small pouch on the other.....not much weight. Leave the heavy stuff for a vest.

As for you gear placement, play around with it.....no one gets it right the first time. Consider what is practical and natural to YOU. Consider what gear you need to access the most.

I would like to get involved with 3 gun type sport I've read about the sport, neaver done it. I do enjoy all 3 and wanted to buy gear that would last without me feeling a need to upgrade. It seems that I am a long range prone shooter by nature so I'd like that to be part of anything I would compete in hence the need for equipment that will keep the gear safe and with me. I look at pictures from rifles only competion and sniper hide cup championship matches. These guys seem to be both hand gun and rifles, but No one ever gives a break down of what gear works best, belts, holster mag carriers and maybe whats just as important whats a waste. You have to look and try to figuer it out. Thats why I thought of asking
