I may never make it to Argentina to shoot doves but I can afford to go to Kansas and do this. Has anybody ever done it? what did you think?

Any reccomendations other than the one that I am looking at?

Why not just go but your own tame pheasants kick them out of the cage and shoot them on the ground. Looks pretty gay but guess i like hunting the birds and not just shooting. If i want to shoot i will go to the trap range. If you want i can get you in contact with some one here in SD and it is all wild birds and lots of them.

I appreciate the reply. I guess it is sorta like the people I see plinking away at deer, etc from 650-1000 yards. I don't call that hunting either but.....

I may make it to SD someday.

If you want to do this why dont you get a bunch of freinds together go and buy your own pheasants 15 dollars each. Then take them out and shake the shit out of them throw them in some fence lines or crp wait for a hour or two and then go hunting. They will sit really tight and at least you get to experience the best part the flush. Not that much to hunt here $110 for license 10 days, food and lodging, and a shit ton of public land to hunt birds on.

Well I think I'll just agree to disagree with you, and as far as hunting placed birds, I have and will continue to do it, it allows my family to enjoy something that otherwise is almost impossible to pull off, with school, work, etc. right now. Maybe in the future I can come to SD and experience the joy of wild birds but for now, I'll keep taking my family and enjoying it anyway I can.

My 6 yoa trying to kill his first Pheasant, this was just before the flush(Nope we didn't even shoot it on the ground)

There is a place down the road from my Father-in-laws ranch that does these kind of hunts . We traded some Hay for a hunt and I gave the hunt to my neighbor . He took his 87 year old Father , who is a WWII vet , on the hunt and said that they had the time of their life . Great dogs that work just like you dream about and they had a breed of Pheasant that flew a lot slower so his father was able to get on them with some success . While I don't know that I would be interested in that kind of hunt due to my access to some pretty awesome spots I can see where they would have there place . If your trying to get a beginner interested and want to guaruntee a certain level of success or have an older hunter who just can't get out and hike the trails or doesn't have the speed to get on the birds like they used to these places are ideal .

If the kids are haveing fun that is what counts. Just spoiled with all the birds we have here. Got a bad taste in my mouth when hunting a preserve once the dogs caught more birds than we shot. i have taken alot of fathers and sons out over xmas vacation. They say it is the kids xmas present good way to get the wives to let them go

Re: European style Pheasant Hunting -Anybody done it?

The dogs caught one and a quick zap made him let go. My wife and kid loved watching the dogs and my wife is hooked, she has already made her Christmas list for her OWN shotgun and accessories.

If SD wasn't as far as it is, and demands of home life allowed if, I would be there. I know, if, if, if.
I gotta find some like minded souls to go with me, everyone here in Arkansas is too busy trying to kill whitetails to hunt anything else. I have no doubt it is nice.

I Have some friends that just got back. I even looked up the SD game and fish website to request some information so maybe me and some friends can make it out next year.

If the pheasants out there are harder to kill, I'm bringing nothing less than a 3" magnum 12 gauge

Re: European style Pheasant Hunting -Anybody done it?

one guy used a 28 gauge today and killed em dead. Not my choice but he sure could shoot. i learned some thing today pheasants will sit in grass with 6-10 inches of water. They dont run very good in water though. They sure were surprised though must of figured no one would go after them in there.

BKS aren't you in Fayettenam? If youw ant to get a hunt together then let me know. My brother is in Bella Vista and he loves to bird hunt. He just got back from Show me birds this weekend and is going on the European in December. If we can plan a SD hunt let me know as I am sure we can get together.
