I'm looking for anyone with actual field experience (not google experience) that can help me decide between the USO ST-17 and ST-22. I am going to buy one or the other, and this scope will only be used to shoot 600, 800, and 1000 yard matches (no plinking, no hunting, etc...), just F T/R matches (and yes, I realize most on here are "snipers" and not cardboard mercenaries). I'm familiar with all of the bells and whistles so I dont need anything in those regards. I'm just looking for a little real world feedback.

Thanks

PS, I apologize for being a newb and being so brash, just a little touchy from reading all the nonsense directed at "unworthy" posts.

Re: Experience with USO ST-17 and ST-22???

I have the ST-22 on my .50 and only use it at 1k yd matches. I haven't had any problems with the mirage and wishing I had the ability to turn the power down so all has been good. It's a USO how can you make a bad decision?

Re: Experience with USO ST-17 and ST-22???

Thanks, I'm considering just biting the bullet and going with the ST-22 myself. I've heard great things about it. I'm thinking about going with the EREK 1/4 MOA elevation knob and the #3 M40 1/4 MOA windage knob. Which reticle would you recommend for that configuration? I'm sure you'll say the Horus, but are there any others that would work well? Also, I'm going to get the REM700 Long Action base, which rings (height) would you recommend for this application? Tube diameter? My rig is a McMillan A4 stock, 30" Kreiger 5R barrel with 1:10, and blueprinted and re-chambered REM700 LA (from .270 to .308) and will only be shooting prone from a bi-pod. I'm also going with the extended eye relief in anticipation of moving to a higher caliber bolt gun in the future. I may or may not do that, but at least I'll be covered in that aspect if I do.

Thanks for the input. I'm still new to all of this and just learning as I go.

Re: Experience with USO ST-17 and ST-22???

I got the #3 M40 elevation and windage knobs with the PCMOA reticle....the horus is just too much for my caveman brain, The erek knobs are awesome I just tried to keep the costs down. Your rig sounds like it's ready to win matches!! I would probably go with med rings but it will depend on which objective bell you get. Anyway you slice it- you've got a winner bro!

Re: Experience with USO ST-17 and ST-22???

Price is definitely something that I'm trying to keep in mind, but at the same time I know that I want to do this scope right and make it the last scope that I will ever need (since USO scopes are actually capable of that). I doubt I will go with the Horus reticle, but I'm definitely going to go with the EREK knob. I'll check out the PCMOA reticle a little more. I've read some good things on it, I'll see what else I can learn before making my final decision.

Thanks for your replies. You've helped me more than you know.

This is a difficult one. Most ring heights can be figured out based on your height base and objective diameter. If you are using a 44mm objective, most likely you will need either a “X-low” or “Low” on a bolt gun with a standard base. If you are using an AR flat top design you are going to need a “medium” or “high”. Most cases the ‘high” provides a cheek postion that is a bit more comfortable, “medium” is a bit too low.
58mm objective will need a “low” or “medium’ on most bolt guns.</div></div>

Thanks. But I just saw the push pinned thread discussing this after I posted. But I appreciate explanation all the same.<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: ForwardAssist</div><div class="ubbcode-body">http://usoptics.com/index.php?page=faq
