Ok not sure where to post this question but since it pertains to a bolt action rifle I figured I would start here.

I'm looking for names, contact info and prices (if you have them) for dealers here in the US that would be willing to export bolt action rifles to the UK and Aus.

    try ETSS. Michael Knehs

    http://www.etssincusa.com/

think he charges 15% to the end customer.

beats me why you US guys can't export direct yourselves.

we do all our own exporting, having a 3rd company in the chain just adds cost and time. sure its a pain in the ass paperwork screwabout, but if the export market is interesting, then being set up for it is the way to go.

is it so difficult to do from the US? whats actualy involved in bieng legaly able to export ?

what we need is an end user cert ( unless its under 5000€ to NATO countries) and an import permit, or letter to say you can have it if its a firearm, with that we apply for an export permit.
when that is issued we do an online customs declaration, print a copy and go to the customs, then we can ship.

problems usualy only occur when the country of destination dont give the echo back to the export permit authority here, they do check. and then other problems occur because the courier companies dont know the damn regulations,
but you get that wether you use and exporter or not i'm sure.

    Re: Exporter?

I have imported actions & barrels from the US into New Zealand for a few yrs .

To start with say 5-6 yrs ago , you had a lot of FFL Exporters as the licence fee was low , then they put it up 300% per yr , then they hiked it into outerspace , the effect this has had is make the number of FFL dealers that also hold a FFL Export licence shrink to almost nothing , and the cost of Exporting firearms to go thru the roof .

A lot will charge $300-450 to do the permit plus a % of the overal cost , this makes it virtually non cost effetcive .
The other single change is to the coding of the shipping , moving from lowcost airfreight to courier airfreight .
Because of this the stuff getting Exported has slowed to a almost non-existant tickle from the US .

The gun trade in the US has allowed the GovT to effectively STOP them Exporting period .

This is the only reason you have compaines outside the US making custom Rem700 actions & trigger guards etc , and it will only get worse .

Its not really worth the effort fromt he US side , and from the other side its not worth the higher cost of doing business with the US .

I have exported Surgeon actions & Bartlein barrels , and would like to do so again , but I cannot see it ever hapeening under the current conditions .

Yeap , call it WOT or UN arms trafficking or what ever , it only impacts the Law abiding , not the crims or dicators .

The US is losing a lot of business , from rifles down to ammo & components , accessories etc .

    Later Chris

    P.S.

As to why you have almost no FFL Exporters left its solely down to cost .

The sums I have been given may or may not be actual , but are in the ball park .

About 6yrs ago the cost per yr was around $500 , then a few yrs later it went to approx $1500 , then about 2 yrs ago it went to into outerspace , I was told it was $75,000 , Opps

    Re: Exporter?

The U.S. State department is the problem with exporting. Anyone who manufacturers ANYTHING considered to be "significant military equipment" is required to register with the State Department. Any exports of SME must be approved by the State Dept. There is a fee to register and additional fees based on a percentage of the value of the goods shipped. Plus all of the fun of the paperwork involved. SME covers a broad range of products; rifles, actions, brass, bullets, Barrel blanks, scopes, reloading dies, etc...

    Re: Exporter?

I used a company in San Fransisco a couple years ago to ship a shotgun to Japan. There are a few listed on gunbroker but cannot remember how to find that info. Will see if I can find a link.

    Re: Exporter?

    As Pete Lincoln said.

I've used ETSS on my GAP and Mike took care of all the paperwork. No complaints. But I still had to send him my UK FAC, confirmation from the UK Trade guys that no import permit was necessary and a letter from the FAC issuing Police Force that I had authority to purchse/own the item in question.

I can understand this on complete rifles or pressure bearing parts but when I got the same problem on handguards or other "minor parts" I questioned the logic.....

The other guy I used a few years back on my Miltech Mauser was Mike diMaggio at Sarco Inc. But I think they let their license lapse?
