This photograph in no way reflects the opinions or values of the LIFE organization, which holds our nation’s veterans in the highest regard. We are proud to have veterans serving on our staff and board of trustees, and we value their service. The men and women who have selflessly fought and sacrificed their lives to protect the rights and lives of Americans deserve our utmost respect and gratitude. We are acutely aware that this photo has done a disservice to veterans and we are deeply saddened that it was taken and shared in a public medium."</div></div>
It does reflect the fact that they hired both her and the photographer and had she not done something patently stupid by posting it, she would still be an employee of LIFE today.
LIFE's carefully-phrased and well-vetted statement, put out by the PR department, is a start. But LIFE's actions need to be a lot more far-reaching than 'an internal investigation.' For one thing, none of the '40 residents or eight staff' did anything about her actions at Arlington... did any report it to management? If not, all of them need to be fired, IMHO.
Through the miracle of Digital Tattoos (or Digital DNA, whichever term you prefer) this will hopefully haunt this individual forever...
Then again, she's probably already getting job offers from those who think what she did was avant garde, hip, edgy and conscious-driven... She'll end up running a foundation somewhere.
And LIFE can say all they want about respecting veterans. But if they have a culture that hired and tolerated this person, those are some pretty empty words they are tossing out in their press statement.
In disgust...
