Hi all,

I'm going to run for the 1000yards hit with my Remington 700 sps varmint in MDT ESS chassis.
The rifle has a 26" barrel with a 1:10 twist rate and chambered for .308 win

I'm using ballistic calculators to find the best ammo to reacht the 1300yards, but still very uncertain about the right factory ammo. Currently, my best guess is the Hornady 178gr GPX10.
Has anyone have any experience with this rifle configuration & ammo used to hit the 1300yards plate ?

Looking forward for your comments !

Kr,

Bart

Federal Gold Medal Match 185 Juggernaut and 175 Sierra Match King would both work and can be found fairly easily.
I got an avg of 2625 and 2660 fps respectively from a 24” 1:10 barrel and great accuracy.

What he ^^^ said. In my AR-10, I've had decent performance at 1000 with FGMM in 168 and 175, after making the daily tweaks. I get very good performance at 800, but it's getting loose at 1K. Armalite, 24" barrel.

If there is a factory loaded 200.20X Berger...if not that 185 Jug recommendation. I'm chomping at the bit to get my 30" 308WIN 200.20x that's cruising 2650fps on the LR range come Spring! (Handloads)

185juggs. Significantly less drift than 175smks. Depending on size target factory may be disappointing at that range. Full size silhouette no problem, 1-1.5moa targets I find myself missing high and low too often for my liking.

I have had the 175 FGMM to 1000 using my factory Rem 700 in 308 with 24" barrel. That ammo also shoots well to 1000 out of my Seekins SP10
My experience is that while some ammo may out perform Federal in some instances, across the board its hard to beat.

I've found fgmm 185 juggernauts to be the best for my rifle. (AR, 24", 1-10 twist). Tried all the other fgmm variants. Loading my own now and still using 185 jugs.

Just for fun:

If I read the box right, Frank was shooting some flavor of Corbon ammunition. I've shot the Black Hills 178 gr with the same/similar performance. But I use the Badlands 175 and the Lehigh Defense 150 for long range steel.

What barrel length on the 150s? I've seen 155s fall off at 800

Most people still using 155s are mandated F standard shooters running overpressure in palma brass out of 30 inch barrels. 170-180 tipped stuff seems to be the sweet spot for anything that isn't long throated single shot FTR.

I'm in agreement with db2000, or frequently make my own with 175SMK at 2.815 OAL, Match Primer, 42.2gr IMR4064, in prepped .308 Brass.

For more than just paper, I like the Speer Gold Dot 168, same load data.

I'd definitely give the Hornady Superformance Match load with the 168 AMAX @ 2840 fps a serious consideration.

In my experience super performance ammo has significant velocity deviation and makes a poor choice for long range.
I would recommend Berger match ammo

99.99% of all shooters over 35 years old first hit at 1 k with a 308 was FGM 175
