Factory Crimp handloads for mag fed bolt guns?

Re: Factory Crimp handloads for mag fed bolt guns?

hmmm.. Just seated my first bullet.... I can move the bullet with my hands...

DO I need to increase neck tension? How do I do that?

Brass has been FL sized, trimmed, inside and outside chamfer...its once fired RP brass.

300 win mag...

If you can move the bullet easily with your hands, I would say it is too loose. You don't want the seating length of those in your mag changing under recoil.

Chamfer shouldn't matter.

I use a factory crimp die for .223 to be shot out of an AR, where is more of an issue, and Redding neck bushing dies for .308/.30 cal. Good price on the Redding dies on the group buy page, and there is also a Redding crimp die, but I have not gone that route. I did try the Lee collet neck die, and found it did not give me enough tension, but the changeable bushings for Redding seem to work out great.

Someone else will probably mention it, and would know better than myself, as I have not tried it, but perhaps polishing your expander ball a bit to fractionally reduce dimensions? Or resize a few rounds without the expander ball in the die to see what the tension is then?
