I have a ruger M77 Mk II Target in .223. This gun has a 1:9" twist. I thought it would probably shoot a 69 grain SMK pretty well but they are all over the place. Although it does shoot 50 grain V-max at about .5 MOA if I do my part. Not a real tack driver but pretty good for a factory Ruger. Was hoping it would shoot heavier bullets. Any advise on loads to try?

Please share with me your favorite loads for .223 with 1:9 twist rate. Especially if you have one of these rifles.

Thanks

I was going to say 75 grain AMAX with RE15 or Varget....but if you are having problems with the 69's the AMAX may not work.

Best bet is to get a few and give it a go. I haven't tried a Ruger barrel, but have had good success with a 1:9 Savage.

What loads did you use with the 69 SMK. That is the sweet spot on a 1:9 barrel so I am pretty suprise. 25.9-26.3 of Varget should be right on with sickening regularity.

1) Did you verify you rings, scope and base are snugged up good?

2) What primer, powder, brass, and OAL length did you use with the 69s.

I wouldn't spend the money on 75s until you can get 68 or 69s dialed in.

RL15 with the A-maxs do rock though.

If you live in OK I can give you some bullets to try as I have plenty of a few, as I took a swipe at almost everything from 77 down in my wife's rifle (Savage 12 w/26" and 1:9 twist)

I have some 77 SMKs 69 SMKs and 68 Hornady match bullets to try. I will try some different powder and primers. I have been using remington benchrest primers and 26 grains of Varget. I was very surprised and dissapointed as well. I plan to check the barrel twist for sure on the gun to make sure the manufacturer didn't mess up. I can't imagine that though.
