Embarrassed to admit this but I’m wondering now if the A-Zoom snapcaps I used to test the Zeus and Faxon barrel together may be the issue. All 4 still extract from my current rifle (RPR with WOA 6CM barrel) but they’re visibly worn and no longer seem to eject reliably from that rifle either (just noticed today).
I didn’t want to chamber a live round on an experimental action/barrel combo at home but I’m kicking myself for not trying that now. I do not recall if the go/no go gauges I tried engaged the Zeus extractor, and in my disappointment the barrel is already on its way back to Faxon.
Is it possible that worn snapcaps can still extract in one rifle and fail to extract in another? Maybe the Faxon chamber was just long enough relative to my RPR’s that the rim didn’t engage the Zeus extractor but a pristine brass one would have?
