FED 210M's in stock at Midway!

Re: FED 210M's in stock at Midway!

Dumb question because I'm just starting to gather equipment and gear for loading... what is 210M? I assume it has something to do with either how much of a pop it makes or how it makes it or ??

I'm going to start with .338 Lapua and just thought I needed large rifle primers. I wasn't aware there was different types but based on how precise everything is I wouldn't be surprised to find out there are even many different types of primers in the same basic shape/size too.

210 is federal's number for the size of primer. 210 is large rifle. the m in 210m designates "match". They are supposedly a little more consistent, but the majority of people cant prove or tell a difference between regular 210 primers and match 210m's. some people also claim its just more experienced people operating the 210m assmebly line. who really knows.

205 is small rifle, 205m is small rifle match etc.

for magnum calibers like 338 lapua, you need large rifle magnum primers, federals are 215 and 215m.

federal is now calling the m line of primers, "gold medal match".

There you go.

Re: FED 210M's in stock at Midway!

Some say match primers is made by someone with more experience. I don't know. I have never been able to tell the difference between the 2. But I am sure there are people out there that can tell you to the T what they have seen on the chrono when switching up primers.

For my 7WSM, I have used Wolf Magnums, 210Ms and CCI 250s. I couldn't tell the difference between the 210Ms and CCI 250s, but with the Wolf Magnums I would get hang fires. Not too sure what causes that, maybe it's too much powder for the Wolfs to ignite, I dunno. From what I hear the difference between the regular Wolf and magnum Wolfs is the thickness of the primer cups on the magnums. Not too sure if anyone is running Wolfs with a 338LM. Most people I see use 215s or the CCI 250s.

Re: FED 210M's in stock at Midway!

So if I need to load some 338 Lapua grab anything in a large rifle magnum primer that I can find right now, right? It's pretty much all going to be the same and I should just be happy to find something, right?
