Hi,

Geezus Christ....when are reporters and press releases going to stop being so fucking melodramatic, lol...As if FedEx is the only shipper in the world.

More "Cargo" gets shipped via Commercial Airlines anyway just from the pure number of flights compared to pure cargo flight numbers.

This just means shipments will go through a freight forwarder and luckily that side of the world is the HQ to one of the largest in the world.

Anyone want to take a wager on during their transitional audits that FedEx found discrepancies in the way TNT booked, logged and lodged firearms??

Sincerely,
Theis

Goes a bit deeper than that, unfortunately. Firearms themselves have very little to do with it. We can send Firearms by post If necessary......TNT had the monopoly on Class 1.4S and 1.4C freight around the country pretty much. (powder and primers etc.) Unfortunately for us, there are only 2 entry points in the country for these items. They have to be road distributed from there. The shooters in the rest of the country depended on TNT for powder, primers movement. Since ADI has fucked up with it's new powder formulation for pistol powders, it is unavailable for the forseeable future. We are now reliant on imported Alliant, Winchester etc. Except Alliant are the only importer that still brings the stuff in. Distributed from Queensland. And now, since there is no road freight available, the only way I can get powder, (Alliant at least) would be to drive to QLD and pick it up myself. Same for primers etc, as most of them come through the same place. Just a 2000 mile round trip....... Hopefully something is resolved. soon. Shit is hard enough to get here, (Like yourselves) we didn't really need this.

Hi,

@dirtysanchez
So this is more of a domestic movement problem than "Getting items into AU"?

When you say TNT had the monopoly on Class 1.4S and 1.4C; are you referring to a real monopoly or just cornered the market type thing?

If the first; then do you see the market actually opening back up to more companies capable of OTR shipping those Class items since the "Monopoly" company is getting out the way?

If the second; then are the other super small OTR players capable of taking more of the respective market share or are they maxed out as it is?

From the outside it sounds like these guys need to file for another transportation certification and take up the market..

Theis

It is only an internal freight issue at the moment. Hopefully, someone else will take up the slack. None appear to be attempting at the moment. TNT had the lion's share of the market, bigger network and better prices, so became the defacto go to company. The problem for another company is the size of the market for these particular items. It is tiny, and doesn't lend itself to a cost effective answer If a company has to invest in some infrastructure to get it going. At a cost effective rate to your customer of course...... Doesn't help that each state has it's own limitations and requirements re carrying such items, so even crossing state boundaries can potentially get you into trouble. It's a clusterfuck really.

Meh. Here in the states we are used to the “big“ cargo airlines being Fedex/ups, but on the global scene they are little fish in a big pond. I’m sure those long term accounts will find another freight forwarder, like DHL, who will find any number of contract airlines with all the proper hazmat certs to get them their stuff, probably for cheaper. There’s an entire segment of the cargo airline industry designed around the ”you call, we haul” type of operation. It’s referred to as an ACMI operation, aircraft/crew/maintenance/insurance, all that provided by the company to anyone with the cash to ship whatever the fuck they want. Rich Russian buys 18 limited edition Lambo’s In Italy? They’ll fly that shit to the motherland all nice and packaged up. 100k lbs of iPhones in China with lithium batteries to Chicago? Done. Horses from the states for restaurants in South Korea? We can do that too (true story).

In Aust there is so much red tape to do with firearms/ammo/powder transport that nobody wants to touch it with a 10ft pole as it's just far too costly and too many special licenses needs as well as approved safe storage areas needed in the depots. On top of that, they are always adding new rules and regs to the powder side of things alone.
Guns/ammo/primers are governed by the state governments under the firearm acts and regs, but powder because it's considered an "explosive" is controlled by the state mining and resources dept and they are a rule to themselves and staffed by a lot of antis who use their private agenda to slowly screw down on LAFO's.
