What are my options for this setup? I know of Falcon Optics but am unsure if they would hold up on a larger caliber rifle(.338 LM).

My budget is around $1700 max and am looking for a variable power optic in the 5.5-22x50/56 to 8.5-25x50 range. Any ideas?

Thanks for the info guys. Does the Leupold com with mil/mil adjustments?

Anyone know if the Falcons are sturdy enough to hold up to prolonged use on a .338LM or .50?

No, they do not. Have a look at the SS 3-9. FFP, Mil/Mil, Mildot, $600.

Creature,

Although I have a SH Edition 3-18 IOR, and I like it very much, I second the thought on the new Vortex Razor. It certainly looks hell for stout, and IOR's have had trouble on heavy kickers in the past. And the $ difference is really not that much more.

Best bet is call Scott @ Liberty Optics. He sells both, and can give you first hand advise, and first class service.

Not enough scope to utilize the 338's capabilities.

Re: FFP with mil/mil adj, and a mil-dot reticle

Well I've been looking at the Razor and it looks like a real good scope. Kind of skeptical with it being new and all but it looks real stout.

I need to get a few things sold before i can afford it, like my AKUSA custom Russian AK-103 package in the EE(hint hint).

So has anyone mounted one of those Falcon Menace scopes on a .50 or .338? How are those scopes? I thought about buying one of those to use for a while until I could buy something nicer.

I belive Falcon states that the largest caliber their scopes can stand up to is a 338LM. But I think someone here had mounted it to a 50, but I forgot what the outcome was.

I don't think they make a 5.5-22x50 FFP scope do they?

I'm looking a lot harder at the Vortex Razor, it really seems to be the way to go being a FFP scope with Mil everything.

Re: FFP with mil/mil adj, and a mil-dot reticle

I aaas in the same spot your in a couple of months ago. I needed a scope for my 338 Norma mag. I started with a budget around 1400. I thought I would get the ior snipers hide 3-18 but was scarred off by the history (this was before the 4th gen). I then could not find anything in my price range. I look at nightforce but I wanted ffp. I then uppedthe budget to get the vortex razor because it had all the features I wanted. Once I realized how much the razor was going to cost with the rings I decide to up the budget again. Few hundred more Nd got a premier 5-25 and could not be happier.
I always figure I am going to spend about twice as much as I plan to. I guess that is why I work for the government.
