Figuring out grain of a bag of bullets

To be more specific, I bought a zip lock full of .308 ammo but they didn't know what grain the bullets are as it was from some boxes that had torn open in shipment. They're all Sellier & Bellot, they "look" like match grade ammo in the sense that the cases are not knicked, dimpled or discolored. Is there any way by weighing the bullets I can maybe find out what grains the bullets are?

Re: Figuring out grain of a bag of bullets

Find someone that reloads that can pull a bullet for you and weight it. That is about the only way (see edit below) What does the head stamp on the bottom of the case say.

[edit]
Bc of the differing weight of the bullet, the powder inside, and the case weight there is no real weight to find out the weight of one variable without some constants just like in algebra.

Damn, thank you though for the help BR. I'm wondering if I can go to the gun store and weigh out the different S&B rounds and try to make an assumption on the closest match. Maybe I'll try that, but once again I appreciate your help.

S&B ammo may look good, but it's not really good ammo. Good for plinking, but I wouldn't waste a lot of time and effort on it. There are much better brands out there. Ski.

Call ahead to the gun store, alot of gunsmiths at gun stores do custom rounds for people. They might actually have reloading equipment in house and can weight it for you. Good luck. I know the head manager at the Gander Mtn here in Knoxville does hand loads for people going on safari and stuff so call around and see who you can find.
