Was wondering, is their a way to take the butt pad off of this stock and fill it with some lead. Was looking to weight it down a little more, a do it yourself way. What would be any pros/con of doing this?

Thanks in advance

Re: Filling a hs 5r stock.

Their buttpads are glued on before the final textured finish is applied. I tried to order a new buttpad from HS when one of mine was damaged. They would not sell it to me, I had to send the stock back to them, they glued on a new pad and refinished the whole stock.

Re: Filling a hs 5r stock.

I used a heat gun to get mine off. Very easy. I also put lead in there to make it heavier. I mixed epoxy with and lead together and put it inside. The heat gun works good. I also put a new recoil pad on it.

Re: Filling a hs 5r stock.

im actually planning to do the same thing..

ive already cut my 5r stock once to add a butt hook with some fiberglass..

Now, im looking to add some flush cups on the side of the stock. The stock has a hard outer shell and the center is just filled with a light foam.
My plan is to remove the recoil pad and cut open the front of the stock. Im going to fill these areas with epoxy to add weight and to make them strong enough to support a flush cup.

ill take pics when i do it.. Probably gonna be next weekend

dc, your my hero, Id love to see as many pics as you can get of what the inside of it looks like. Outsy said that he cut his butplatte off and their is a stell formed shell supporting the stock. Good Luck, if you can pm with the link to the thread when you get done, thanks.

Re: Filling a hs 5r stock.

will do...

look here http://s942.photobucket.com/albums/ad262/dcskater602/Rifle%20Misc/

there are some pics in there of when i did the butt hook mod.. i filled my butt stock with construction adhesive to add some weight..so its gonna look different inside of mine

my pachymar (sp?) decel pad and 1 LB of epoxy will be here around tuesday.. after i go get the new scope zeroed tommorow.. im gonna pull the stock off and get started on gutting the inside

hopefully my flush cups will be here by the weekend.. They thread in, so most importantly i need to get the stock nice and solid so that the stock will support the flush cups

Re: Filling a hs 5r stock.

progress has started.. factory recoil pad removed, bored out the foam from the center of the stock, waiting on UPS now

ive completely bored out the center of the butt stock almost to the palm swell. I plan on adding a solid 1.5lbs here. Gonna do that with steel BBs mixed into Devcon. Unfortunately i didnt order any of those nifty recoil pad spacers from midway, and im not waiting on them. Gonna pick up some .125 plastic/plexi tomorrow from lowes and use that as my base. That way i can add spacers if needed to adjust LOP.

i got a little aggressive with the factory recoil pad and chipped the fiberglass on the end of the stock in one spot. No worries the stock is already modified. Im gonna give the thing an additional layer of fiberglass and maybe re-contour the top of the stock

more to come.. pics and progress tommorow

Re: Filling a hs 5r stock.

quite deep into the project now... hopefully done this weekend with some pics

the lightweight HS stock (weighed just under 3 lbs) will have a final weight of 3.5-3.75 lbs.. the balance point of the rifle (without the bipod) is right where the internal mag is..

definatley not the lightest... i think my barreled action and scope weighs around 7-8lbs.. atlas weighs less than 1/2 pund.. gun should come in around 12-13lbs and nicely balanced

oh and it doesnt look like a HS P stock anymore lol
