Im building my first rifle. So far i have a rem sps tactical, badger rail and badger rings. Im looking at getting a rem 700p take off stock to replace the hogue stock, is this a good stock? and any advice on glass say around 800.00 to spend.

When I started my 700 LTR project, I had the same idea on stocks. Personally, I love the 700P stock. One complaint I've heard about it is the size of the palm swell. You should be able to sell that Hogue stock for $50-$100 and pick up the 700P stock for $200-$250.

As for the rail and rings, Badger is nice, but very overpriced in my opinion. I would look into Seekins Precision. Their rails are aluminum, and VERY well made. The rings are also aluminum, and do not have the large 1/2 bold on the side. Instead they have 2 hex bolts that will clamp down. Just one less thing to get snagged, but to each his own.

Check out the SWFA SS scopes. I'm thinking of getting the variable power one. I would find and LTR stock to keep the rifle light weight and it doesn't have the silly big palm swell.

Besides what do you plan on doing with the rifle? That really helps us help you. Need to know things like... are you planning on climbing a deer stand with it or shooting BR competition at 1K and beyong????
