Guys,
I need to protect the 5/8-24 threads (5/8" long from shoulder to muzzle)on my Rem 700 in 300 whisper and it seems false economy to buy a thread protector to be replaced with a mount down the road. Problem is I have to choose a can in order to get the right mount. I like the price/warranty of the YHM can, but lean to the AAC 7.62 SDN 6 for size/weight. Should I be looking at something else out there? Yes, this will be my first can. . .

Best Regards,

Randy Todd

Re: First can, help me choose?

I say get the most versatile Suppressor you can and use it on multiple hosts. I lucked out and got the " OK " from AAC to use my can on my more powerful bolt guns (280ai and 300RCM) due to barrel length but I kind of wish I would have bought a Magnum Rated can so I dont have to worry about it.

I have a 762SD ( my first can, waiting on the second to come back) and use it for multiple platforms ( 4 Ar's, includeing a 300aac, 3 bolt guns), I think its great but the QD Adapters get a little spendy at $100-$150. YHM definitly has the upper hand on the price of the adapters and it does add up. I am pretty much Vested in the 51T AAC platform now with all the damn mounts I have.

Re: First can, help me choose?

Get a Titanium SAS Arbitor direct thread. If you want a brake mount system (which you don't need for the whisper), go with their threaded "over the brake mount". Mile high shooting is a stocking dealer. Don't try to contact Tim directly @ SAS.

The SAS cans sound great, are light and inexpensive. I run an AAC 7.62SD 18 tooth system and wish I had the SAS. I got to play with AAC's new 51 tooth mount last weekend and it left ALOT to be desired!

Re: First can, help me choose?

I have two of Tim's (SAS) cans, one direct thread one quick change. They work extremly well, and I haven't seen any other titanium supressor any smaller or lighter. Personal choice on which one, I do sometimes take mine off mid session because of heat, so the brake/supressor combo works fine and you don't have to worry about threads. Either way good products.

Re: First can, help me choose?

I really like my two AWC's a thundertrap and a raider but have a few others in the works three from AWC and three from YHM. I hope I am as happy with the YHM as I am the AWC's. PG

Re: First can, help me choose?

Guys,

Thanks for the thoughtful answers. I doubt I'll ever put the can on anything other than the whisper. Aside from my MIA and Garand, my .30 cals are set up for across the course competition, and have the barrels turned for band mounted front sights.

I read a post today that said any of the top end suppressors would give excellent performance and there was not likely a bad choice. Sounds reasonable. At this point I am trying to read up on the AAC cans, the Arbitor, and the Shark... I like the idea of QD mounts, just to protect my fine threads. If anyone has strong feelings or better yet personal experience with all three, please give me more feedback. It's a pile of cash outlay here in my world, and I'd like to make the "best" decision.

Re: First can, help me choose?

I've heard the Arbitor and Shark shot on 2 308's at the same time. You could not tell them apart. I say run the direct thread Arbitor. You have no need for a QD in this application and that helps keep cost down all the way around.

Get yourself a $20 thread protector and forget about it.

Found here.

Re: First can, help me choose?

Randy,
I would highly recommend the Suppressed Armament Systems (SAS) series and depending on budget you want to work in we can offer you a multitude of different options. We have in stock many different models as well for faster delivery. I will be glad to speak with you in further detail, answer all your questions and assist just PM me a phone # to discuss further. Have a great holiday weekend to all.

Re: First can, help me choose?

Not to hijack this thread but I'm looking to buy my first can also.
I have an AR10 in .308 and an AR 15. If I bought a can for the
.308, how effective would it be if used on the AR 15?

Re: First can, help me choose?

I have two of Tim's supressors (SAS), one titanium one stainless. 308 and 223. Both work superb. Mile high has them in stock, good choice, they are good people.

Re: First can, help me choose?

I run both the .30cal and 5.56mm cans on the AR's for demo's and there is a small difference in db reduction but most people can not tell and when you look at the savings to the end user which is obvious, it really don't make that much of a difference. It honestly works very well and is a simple solution we recommend for many customers daily, that is why we offer many different types of muzzle brakes for this application.

My 30 cal can on my .556 AR is super effective. Makes the AR super quiet!

Re: First can, help me choose?

Stacey,

Thanks for all the detailed answers to my questions via our phone conversation. It was a pleasure talking to you, and I have no doubts about the product and SERVICE that Mile High will provide. I have a couple of decisions to make regarding 5/8-24 vs 3/4 threads. I like the robustness of 3/4, but the more "standard" nature of 5/8 has some advantages as well. I may email you a follow up or two.

Best Regards,

Randy

Re: First can, help me choose?

Understand and appreciate your taking the time to ask questions and check out all the pro's and con's with this application. As discussed, either way, we can offer you the DC models with the 5/8 or 3/4x24, your choice. Just lmk and look forward to talking with you soon.
