I have data from today, however I need help understanding what I have.
Rifle: .308 Win. GAP Remington 700 22" Bartlein 1:11.25
Range: Markham Park in Sunrise, FL 84 degrees, 5' elevation, 58% humidity,Pressure 29.73,

FACTORY AMMO: Hornady TAP 168gr. AMAX match
1. 2548
2. 2648
3. 2635
4. 2666
5. 2648
6. 2655
7. 2660
8. 2656
9. 2647
10. 2670

AVERAGE FPS: 2643
My reloads: 44 gr Varget, 1x fired Hornady Match Brass, FL sized, 168 gr AMAX bullet

1. 2693
2. 2683
3. 2671
4. 2692
5. 2668
6. 2691
7. 2688
8. 2701
9. 2670
10. 2710

AVERAGE FPS 2684.9 or 2685

My goal was to try to match the factory ammo as it shoots good out of my gun, better than me, I am faster off the bat. But at 100 the rounds, factory and reloads are real close to same point of impact.

ANY HELP, or understanding of what I have is appreciated.

Jack

Re: First reloads through CHRONO

What exactly is your question?? You have loaded some ammo that shoots 40fps faster than the factory load, thats my analysis from the limited info. How did your loads shoot?

Re: First reloads through CHRONO

Thanks for the reply. At 100 I do not see a difference in accuracy between my loads and the factory.

What FPS do I need to be at to remain super sonic at 1K?

I still have to figure out seating depth, in regards to being off the lands. I was just using factory rounds and trying to make similar.

Are these FPS differences the norm? or Could it be inconsistent techniques when loading?

Thanks

Re: First reloads through CHRONO

You probably won't see all that much difference at 100. I use 300 as a minimum to start looking at differences in POI with loaded rounds. Your string looks about correct. I am not sure how you put in your powder so I don't know how consistent you might have been - 2668 - 2710 is showing that your powder might not have been that consistent. With a 168 you are going to have a hard time staying supersonic at 1000 yards. If it is transonic than you may see some key holes in the target but if you are wanting a round to make it to a 1000 go try the 178 AMAX or 175 BTHP and push them to about 2650.

Re: First reloads through CHRONO

hey there jack. those numbers dont look too bad compared to what I usually get. looking at my records, my reloads usually have an extreme spread of 20-30 and a standard deviation of less than 10. i also shoot 168 (noslers) but use r15 powder and weigh each charge. to get an idea if that velocity will stay supersonic at 1000, plug the info into jbm and see what comes up... should give you an idea at least, although the only way to know for sure is to actually shoot it that far.

ive been busy lately with a lot of MIL stuff, but that is winding down now so maybe we can actually get out and shoot together sometime. if you need anything let me know. jc
