Being a 300 Savage 99 owner, I'm always looking for ways to get a bit more out of the most efficient short factory 30.(fps/gr of powder)
Last year I tried the 130 TSX and it would stay under 1" and killed one Antelope very dead. Now that the 130 TTSX is out, I tried it with the same load of CCI BRs, WW brass and 36 gr of 4198 (max). Hodgdon says 2837 fps, I'm getting 2950 (24" bbl at 7200' up). Loaded with Lee FL, seat and crimp die at 2.6 OAL.
On my 1950s 99R and old (good USA made) Burris 1.5-6 it shot at the same height as the TSX but about 1" right. After some screwing around with the windage and letting her cool down 30 minutes, I shot this 3 shot group @ 100, 3/4" on centers. Most don't think of 4198 as anything but a 222 or reduced big bore powder. I have found it to be the fastest and most accurate in the 300 Savage, 338 Federal (185 TSX) and 358 Winchester (200 TSX). This load should do anything needed within this rifle's point blank range envelope of 300 yards.
