Range Report First Time out with 700P

First time out with my new Remington 700P in .308. It's around 80 yards. The range didn't go out to 100 yards. It is three shots. I didn't use match grade ammo - just some cheap remington UMC. Also I used a bipod but did not use any kind of rear support other then my right arm. I know I need to adjust my scope so it is centered but I am waiting until I get to the 100 yard range. Any feedback would be appreciated.

The Dot Drill will cause you fits if you give it an honest try. It will also make you a better shooter.

You have a good start there. Just take it to the next level.

I have a hard time believing you only shot 3-shots that day. A cherry picked 3-round group just shows that the odds swayed to the tight end of the spectrum. I think we would have rather you post a pic of the rifle.

If you start reloading for it, try a 175SMK over 43.0gr of RE15. I just ran this load yesterday and it shot amazingly well.

I am not trying to be a dick. You are new here so I figured I would give you a heads up. What usually happens is someone will post a pic like yours. Then it will degrade into an argument about how the rifle will do that "all day long" as long as you "do your part" and off we go.

No those were my first three shots and I didn't mean to appear to be cherry picking. My other shots were pretty much about the same. I can take a picture of the other target if you want but it also includes hits from my friend and son who were with me which is the only reason I didn't post it. We only shot 40 bullets total that day - two boxes of 20. It was Halloween and we had to get back to the family or the wives would have killed us. Also I don't take offense. All criticism is useful in my opinion. In fact I am by no means any kind of expert which is why I am here - to learn Thanks for the heads up and the suggestion on the reload it is appreciated. When I go to the 100 yard range the next time for sighting in I will post the target with more then three shots in different areas. And just to be fair I will still only use my arm and the cheap ammo. Also thanks for the rule link. I have read it and will follow it.

Will do. Its a standard 700p with a harris bipod and a leupold scope. Nothing real fancy.

Earlier I said we shot 20 bullets that day - 2 boxes of 20. The other box was for a quick break in. I apologize if that caused any confusion.
