Hunting & Fishing Fishing Pics

I always wanted to try and get into fly fishing.

Took the wife out trolling for king salmon last weekend. Spend 2 days on the water and had a blast. Biggest was 22#s dressed second was around 20.

Just started planning a trip in western Wyoming for the the Cutthroat Challenge that the Wyo Game and Fish have going on. Have to catch all four native varieties in their natural habitat/waters. Then send in pictures to F&G with a form indicating the date and location of each catch. My fishing buddy and I will leave early AM, Tuesday following Labor Day. Hope to catch and post pictures here. I'm taking my fly fishing gear and also a Pocket Fisherman, so I can piss off the purists. Using the Pocket Fisherman is like wearing a MAGA hat in AOC rally. Should be fun.

Update!!!

The plans are made - we'll be heading out Sept 9th to Pelham Lake in Fremont County, Wyoming for our first species, Yellowstone Cutthroat. Once we've finished that leg of the trip were headed south of Jackson Hole to Alpine to get on the Grey's River for Snake River Cutts and work our way up to the Tri-Basin Divide to Smith's Fork for Bonneville Cutts then down LaBarge Creek for Colorado River Cutts. "Fish On!!!":)

I remember when I first started fishing inshore and I caught a trout. I thought “shit, they have teeth. I need pliers”

Trout make you feel like you know what you're doing.
Some days the catch is minimal to zero, so I stop by a couple of trout spots on the way in...

They do make you feel good, we’re starting to see some trout in numbers this time of year on the NC coast!

The trout are here year round.
The reds were on fire in July and August.

I suppose that's a benefit to our latitude.

Just finishing up my annual Baja trip. Had a great time. Reset my personal best on Amberjack, which had a 600 lb sea lion attached to it when I got it to the surface. That made things interesting.

The bait, a live 3 lb Bonito. Note the hook bridled to its head. This was intended for a Black Marlin, but it must have swam down near the bottom.

First sighting of my fish(on the right) being hauled out of the water by the Sea Lion. It grabbed on to the tail, the head as shown, but mostly on the bottom near the pectoral fins. Took us a lot of work to scare him off. Can’t believe we got the fish.

No Baja trip would be complete without a Dorado.

Dang. I'm stuck here in the PNW wishing it was nice enough to launch the boat. Although Dungeness Crab just opened so that might be the motivation needed.

With CA deer season all done, it’s time to hit the waters plus catch some dungies before commercial season starts

Went to McKinney Texas for Thanksgiving. While there we went fishing. My father-in-law loves to fish for catfish.

One of my boys caught a 27#’r (pictured) and a 30#’r.

My other boy caught 2 10# cats. Which was great because we couldn’t keep anything over 20#s. We filleted them. They tasted great.

Then I managed to catch this 50#’r. He initially felt like a big log. Then he got close enough to the surface the daylight spooked him and straight down he went. The fight was on. Holy shit could he pull. I just about had him to the boat and I look at the guide. He had a shit eating grin on. I thought to myself what’s up with the grin. He then stomped on the floor of the boat and once again the fish shot for the bottom. Asshole :) It was a good fight. My left forearm was pretty pumped when I finally landed him.
