During a local match I suddenly got a bunch of black flakes in the FOV of my older IOR 2.5-10 FFP scope. I counted 6 pretty good sized chunks obscuring my view. When I got home, I removed the scope and gave it a few raps on the table. After several attempts at this, I got rid of all of them.
Now the question is what are the chances of this happening again. I've heard of this problem with the USO scopes and I think they have some kinda sticky interior that traps the particles. Anyone know if this is the case for IOR? Or are they going to come back and haunt me?

Re: Flakes in IOR scope!

It'll happen partner. IOR does use a FFP glass reticle, any kind of dust that works its way free in the scope will magically stick to your reticle. Glass has a very poor static quality to it that will attract dust like a magnet.

Normal Type III anodizing dust is a very possible cause of this, USO had problems with this for years until their new ultrasonic cleaner was put into use.

The main thing you need to be concerned about is if this is anodizing dust, or if this is an adhesive that let loose. If the scope works perfectly still, most likely the ano is the problem.

Re: Flakes in IOR scope!

I experiend the same a couple of years ago, I think it was a gen. II model, then I beat it several times on a phone book (I read this advice in the net) and the flakes disappered but I recommend this procedure to strong built scopes only.
