I just received my FN SPR A1a back from Jeff @ CDI Precision Gunworks. He replaced the old FN DBM bottom metal with new bottom metal accepting AICS magazines. I would have done the job myself, but that entailed clearing out some room in the receiver with a grinder. I am nowhere close to a machinist, so I wasn't willing to gamble with my skills. Jeff is one of a handful of guys that offer this bottom metal for the FN/Winchester action, especially at a reasonable price. Note that the Badger bottom metal will NOT fit in Winchester actions. Anyway, Jeff did an awesome job. His turn around time is phenomenal; he received the rifle last Friday and had it back out the door on Monday. I am very satisfied, and would recommend his work to anybody looking to upgrade their SPR.

This guy named Hooper, sometime early last year. Go to hooperordnance.com. Note that the Winchester bolt is harder to machine than the Remington, and some guys don't have the tooling to do it.

Thanks, yes they are a bear to machine. Tough on tooling.

I have refined the way I do the Winchester style handles that makes them easier to install.

How come the bottom metal will fit the FN and not a Model 70? I thought the actions were the same but just had different roll marks since they're all made by FN in Columbia.

The Badger system is made for Remingtons. That's what the first post is commenting on. The CDI system, however, will work for FN/Winchester actions

Man, I missed the word "Badger" in there completely.

I've heard .30-06 can fit into a .300 WM AICS mag if the feed leeps are bent. Is there a DBM out there for pre-64 style Winchester long actions?

Jeff makes winchester long action DBM bottom metal for both short box and magnum length.

The way I see it, and this is only my opinion but I don't think I am wrong: the AI DBM conversion for a Rem 700 is a luxury; a nice thing to have. In contrast, for the FN it is a necessity, because the factory mags are quite unfriendly; at least they were to me.
