FYI Called Fn yesterday and asked when we will be able to purchase the TBM bottom metal for our FN rifles that currently use the 4 round magazines, and was told it will be about a year before FN has and avalible,so I guess we can forget about FN,and switch over to the CDI bottom metal that uses the aics magazines..

Re: FN SPR Bottom metal

join the club. im taking the plunge to CDI and AICS mags by the end of this month. i have maxed out my OAL length on my loads for the factory mag and hoping to grab some extra space with the AICS. not to mention a quality and realiable magazine, to boot.

Re: FN SPR Bottom metal

If you want the new bottom metal you will probably have to buy
a new rifle to go with it

Go with the CDI. Just send him your stock and action and let him inlet stock and machine action. You will be happy.

Plus, with the AICS mags you can get longer COL on your reloads if need be. I run mine on my 7 WSM at 2.930 with the front plate removed and have room left over.

Re: FN SPR Bottom metal

It has been several years of next year from FN. They should just say we aren't going to be available because they ain't. They make great rifles but I'm not waiting on their parts anymore.

Re: FN SPR Bottom metal

The stupid part is that 'they make them'!!! We saw examples at last falls ASC where FNCs were issued for the match. The FNC representatives shot the match with rifles fitted with the new bottom metal that included a 10 round magazine.

Really stupid marketing decision on FNH's part not to release them to the public as an after market item.

Re: FN SPR Bottom metal

No offense to FN but the CDI metal & AI mags are top shelf parts and available now. I made the switch on my factory FN-SPR DBM and could not be more pleased.

When I had the FN factory set up I played the waiting game for FN factory mags and then trying to find someone that actually had more than one mag in stock was a PITA. Also the long rumor of the fabled 10 shot factory mag was an urban legend.

They make great rifles but totally suck on accessories to market and availability.

CDI & AI greatness.....

It's a minor mod and worth it.
Minimal material removal from a non-critical area.

I think the Remington shooters with long cartridges get into the lug area or near by.

+1

That is what keeps stopping me. I realize that it worked well for many, many people and I haven't heard of a single failure, but it would be so much nicer to have something that worked as is.

Re: FN SPR Bottom metal

For myself I wanted to keep my rifle pure FN,I already have a 40x 308 with the Badger bottom metal and love it,however I am just plane tired of having to send my rifles off here and there constantly.I hope FN reads this, and gets off there asses and think about us regular people for once instead of always there military contracts.WE ARE IMPORTANT ALSO, AND I WILL GET THE BOTTOM METAL FROM THEM ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.

Re: FN SPR Bottom metal

If FN or (insert name here) did it 100% correct from the factory there would be little in after market parts, engineering or services. My rifle as an example had a functional factory DBM but it left a LOT to be desired as compared to other systems. My rifle was factory also bedded . Although it shot really well out of the box the factory bedding looked like a bird shit in the stock and they squeezed it together (a poor bedding job).

I could do a better bedding job AFTER drinking a 12 pack.

Point being many skilled owners and gunsmiths take great lengths to finish the base product to a higher level. The extra expense involved and many times a person wanting to leave a gun "stock" condition is a consideration but on the flip side sometimes there are features you will never receive from the factory.

FN gets you close.

Re: FN SPR Bottom metal

Guys, FYI, I two am waiting for FN to release the A1 10 round conversion kit. In the imterim, below are a couple pics of my FN SPR A1 with my solution to the 4 round/10 round mag issue. This is a 10 round FN A5 Mag I got from Midway. The link below the photos tell how I modified the 2 mags I purchased to work in the A1. So far they are working well. I've ran 80 rounds through them over the past two weeks without any issues.
