folding stock

Re: folding stock

Well you get the compactness and ease of carry of course. But depending on the maker you might gain some weight so take note of that.
But in reality there's not a lot of gain except size, but for guys like me compactness is big deal.
Now you can use the rifle with the stock folded and have the folded mechanism against your shoulder, if you ever think shooting space might be limited. But note i've tried it once and a few things to note one the scope needs to be moved forwards, weird doesn't begin to describe the feel, and it hurts because it's a small surface thus more focused energy, and if at the range ask if it ok to do just incase.
But ya it does work, it does look even more retarded then you think it does, and I'll never do it again unless I have no choice or have a little should pad and a bolt gun again (I miss having my savage)

Re: folding stock

One thing I hear people say is that they don't have to take off or lower their adjustable cheek piece to remove the bolt for cleaning.

That's pretty silly, though.

Re: folding stock

It really makes the rifle pack/carry a lot nicer. Rather than using a big eberlestock pack, a regular backpack can be used (even if the barrel sticks out of the zipper a little), which is NICE. Try humping a 26" barrel rifle in an eberlestock pack 10 miles, then try a folder in a backpack... Lower center of gravity makes for better carry.

Re: folding stock

I thought I needed the folder with the AI chassi.

I have never used it. not once.

sounded good.
looked cool.

never used it. adds weight. hmmm maybe for the backpack idea, but I have never seen anyone do that. get a decent biathlon sling if ur worried bout long hikes. or get a lighter rifle. or lift weights. ha.

DT

Re: folding stock

Plus if you add the extra length of a suppressor, and you want to leave it one to maintain accuracy/consistency...a folding stock is nice...just to fit in the safe or in the car for transport.

Re: folding stock

Im glad I went with a folder on my Mcree. Cleaning is so much easier, just fold it and hold on to the grip while pushing the rod, no more gun vise's.

My barrel went out two weeks ago and i wanted to go long on the new one. THe barrel finished at 28in and it wouldnt fit in my drag bag but with the folding stock its not a problem.
