I bought a new scope (DRM II-i from Midway) for my LaRue OBR. I want to a 300 yard zero but don't know how high on my preliminary 100 yard target be before I move to 300 yards. I'm shooting 168 grain Federal GMM. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You might want to consider looking on the JBM Ballistics page. Imput your variables and you will see your answer. Most of us will stick with our 100 yard zero.

You will be approx. 4" high at 100 yards but that could be off half an inch or so since I don't know any of the other data.
Put your data in a calculator if you know the variables.

Like diverdon said, plug in the bullet, mv, etc into a calculator and it will give you the answer.

Future of this thread will be telling you to zero at 100 and dial for distance, which I agree with.

Fro targets, I zero at 100 yds. For deer hunting where I do it in the east, I like 200 as I'm pretty much point blank range out to that distance.

You can see that if I'm zeroing at 200, then on a 100 yd range, I want to be 2.2" high. I think the the advise you received to zero at 100 for targets is best. But if you wanted to zero at 300 on a 100 yd range, run this type of calc and its easy to see.

A dope card for ELD-X for 200 yd zero done on Hornady 4DOF. Now, this is pretty much just try dope, but I have validated it for elevation with my hunting rifle to 200 yds and for deer it works for me

Im usually adding 1.3 to 1.4 mils on my .308 with FGMM either 168/175.

But nothing is perfect......See post #11 here....

For those of us that shot the M14 with M852/M118(pre-LR) in NM competition, we would zero at 200 and 300 was up 3moa, 500 was up 7 more (10 total) and 600 was up 13 total. When you went to shoot a 100yd reduced match, you dropped 1-1.5moa from your 200 zero. Therefore a 300 zero would be about 4-4.5moa high for 100yds. Divide by 3.44 to get mils, so about 1.1-1.3 mils high at 100.

Once upon a time, I was told by a BTDT guy that his 7.62 was zeroed at 300 and his holdovers were hold under the top of the 1 mil at 100, bottom or center at 200, on at 300, 1 mil holdover at 400, 2 at 500, 3 at 600 and 4.5 at 700.
