Hunting & Fishing For a good clear trail camera picture?

Re: For a good clear trail camera picture?

If you can do it, making your own is the way to go. If you buy one, the Cuddeback (I use this one) and the Moultrie are pretty good. Most will have good image quality. A big consideration is the battery usage. You can add a solar panel to the Moultrie camera so you won't need to replace batteries. Otherwise, plan for a new set about every other month (or more often during cold times with lots of pics).

Re: For a good clear trail camera picture?

Arent there a ton of different models available from Moultrie? I once bought one of their cheap units for an area where theft was an issue. It was absolute junk and not worth the $100. I knew I was getting low end, but this one was not worth the hassle.

I had a buddy with one of their pricier units and it functioned fine.

If I didnt want to build one, I would go to one of the homebrew sites and buy one of the homebrews for sale from a reputable builder.

The $400 homebrews are as good as any camera on the market.

IIRC, Hagshouse is one of the homebrew sites I researched prior to building my first cameras.

Back then the Sony P41's were the best cameras for ease of hacking, battery life and picture quality. But they were drying up. Not sure which camera is popular now.
